Have you seen all these protests around the world supporting Palestine? Even after these abhorrent attacks by Hamas on Israeli civilians. It’s an important reminder that the movement for the liberation of Palestinians is very different than this violent terrorizing group called Hamas. The vast majority of Palestinians are not Hamas. They simply want freedom

And dignity and autonomy. And yet their land has been sliced up, built on and is under constant control and surveillance by Israeli military and citizens. When I was reporting in the West Bank, I saw that this is also a form of violence. It is a quieter and less flashy form of violence,

It doesn’t make the same kind of news, but it is violence nonetheless. And yet it in no way justifies what Hamas has done in launching these attacks. These protests remind us that there is a bigger, more legitimate movement at play here one that should not be conflated with Hamas and their horrible actions

    In the last few days.

    1. Palestine = Hamas. The civilians participated in 10/7. They voted Hamas in power in 2005. They’re not innocent, they can’t be killing people and attacking a country and somehow “victims” at the same time. They are their own separate country for the past 20 years, and build lives of hate, focusing on their past mistakes instead of what could be a happy future if they focus their money and energy on things other than violence weapons and bombs.

    2. Well , Hamas is a product of Israel's savagery, I wonder why everyone fails to see that when you grow up as a kid seeing your family getting kicked out from their own land , seeing your friends teenagers and even younger getting arrested and never come back , all that anger and hatred builds up and then you have sth like hamas ! And I wonder sometimes how people convince themselves about the legitimacy of Israel itself, imagine you're living in your house and then all of a sudden people just barge into your house forcing you and kicking you out of your own land and your own house and then when you resist your called terrorist !

    3. I think I would clarify that Israeli military matto is “Never again” so while understandable that Palestine should be free. There is simply the issue of other Arab nations wanting to say they want to wipe out Israel entirely and they don’t want to be wiped out and be genocided again.

    4. I’m sorry but the vast majority of Palestinians help hide and support Hamas. As most Germans were complicit with Nazi Germany so too are most Palestinians with Hamas. I wish they’d wake up. The Palestinians started this war and were celebrating Oct 7th terrorism. Now they aren’t so much. Now they know what happens when they declare war on a stronger more determined country.

    5. Hamas is the oppressor in Gaza, not Israel. Israel evacuated Gaza to pursue peace, but instead they got a terrorist statelet at their border. Hamas uses it’s citizens as human shields, viewing civilian casualties as a way to gain sympathy from the rest of the world. Israel makes EVERY effort to avoid harm against civilians (for example, calling to them that a building will fall), while Hamas deliberately endangers Gaza lives for propaganda. Israel’s struggle is for peace and sovereignty, not occupation and oppression.

    6. The majority of Palestinians do support hamas. 1 in 2006 they elected Hamas in the legislative election. 2 when bodies of captured Jews were showcased in the streets of Gaza the footage clearly shows how happy the regular civilians were. Could anyone show me some evidence that suggest the majority of Gaza’s citizens doesn’t support hamas.

    7. "the vast majority is not Hamas" but they voted for Hamas. So technically Hamas represented the majority of Palestine's people, right?

    8. Don’t want to enter a flame war…

It is TRUE that the majority of Palestinians are not Hamas. However, if opinion polling can be trusted, Hamas polls quite well in Gaza…

    9. Palestinians elected Hamas into power in 2006. Hamas is responsible for their actions towards Israel. Palestinians have had their choice for a better Gaza, Hamas had 17 years and over 50 billion dollars to build an amazing and thriving economy. But they chose hate!! Consequences happened when you choose the wrong thing! Let’s just have a different perspective.

    10. So if fighting back against Israel designates you as a terrorist group, what would you recommend the Palestinians do to get there autonomy and freedom? Beg America to change its mind?
