Looking for advice and recommendations on parts to clean up this Trek 700. I’m a casual biker and have never worked on a bike before. Got this from marketplace to upgrade from my Ozone 500 Shock. Riding mostly on paved roads with the occasional well-kept trail. Not looking to invest a ton into it if possible.

From my 6 mile ride, I’ve learned that the gears skip when standing while pedaling and sometimes while sitting as well. I had a hard time keeping up with my boyfriend’s like new Trek 7200 (which rides amazing in my opinion).

I’d like to touch up the paint as well but not cover up any decals, or repaint and replace decals if needed. There’s a bit of rust in some areas.

One of the shifters and handles (right side) need to be replaced as well. Also noticed that it makes noise in gear 2 – will this be fixed by replacing the shifter?

Any comfy seat recommendations would also be appreciated. I just purchased a Bell seat and don’t love it.

Also if you see anything needing to be replaced that I haven’t mentioned, please let me know what you’d recommend.

I also have a nearly new 820 that I’ve been riding and just find it slow for paved roads as it’s a MTB. The 700 feels significantly better for this, but I know it needs some work.

Like I said, I’m a casual biker and brand new to this. Just trying to make it comfy, clean it up, and keep up with the 7200! Any recommendations would be appreciated! Also interested in learning more about this bike if anyone knows anything about it.

    Thanks
