In the wake of the T100 announcement, Alistair Brownlee has suggested that a smaller field size could make World Triathlon events more exciting.
This week we discuss the implications of limiting the World Triathlon Championship Series start list to 20. What this would mean for the racing, how World Triathlon could fix the broadcast and make following the sport easier and hopefully more exciting.
We also discuss if the age of the bike/runner is over in long distance triathlon and why so many T100 athletes keep talking about IronMan!

I gave to admit that I could not care less about draft legal. The ONLY story I care about is Gwen and her comeback but if she was racing T100 or not at all draft legal wouldn't even be a thing
The death of short distance triathlon can be attributed to its horrible streaming, abysmal marketing, and downright atrocious prize pool. Pretty much everything other than the actual racing. Despite all this, I think the Olympic and sprint distance events are super exciting and fast pace. ITU needs to overhaul this soon or else more pro triathletes will keep moving to the longer distances
Pierre Le Corre actually qualified by finishing in the top 3 Final in Pontevedra last year which was one of the conditions to qualify. So only spot left for Leo Bergere and Vincent Luis. Leo is ahead given their age difference.
The World Cup coverage is abysmal. However, I actually think the WTCS coverage is good – I never miss one. Trevor and Helen are clear and informative and they usually have a camera on the water for the swim. I understand it is not a commercial style coverage – they don't have the vocal range and inflexions but I couldn't care about that. The final in 2022 was a brilliant race – the commentators explained clearly and we just had to watch to see who passed who – most thrilling race I have seen. btw, last year at PTO Ibiza we watched the them swim off out to sea from behind – it was ridiculous. I honestly don't think US or Asian Opens were better coverage than WTCS – swim, bike or run. Not to say there is lots of room for improvement from all organisations (less so SuperTri)

Super League completely rebranding to include more mass participation after hearing this episode is some of the highest budget trolling I’ve ever seen! Chapeau!
1000% agree that World Triathlon is broken. Not sure 20 is the answer tho – wouldn't that make the sport even more stratified in favor of UK, USA, Aus, France etc..? IMO, World Triathlon should just get out the way and focus on governing. Allow the private sector (better race series) to provide the racing and WTC can "ratify" specific races/series to qualify for a 20-athlete grand final.
Genuine question. Tri world all obsessed by a "season long narrative" atm. Cycling doesn't have that and does fine. I don't care where Mathieu vd Poel finishes in UCI rankings if he explodes the field at Paris-Roubaix. Could short course be saved by "monuments" – Escape From Alcatraz style iconic races that will encourage iconic perfromances??
