Pre race chat with Ed Clancy racing the Portsdown Classic near Portsmouth on February 11

So Ed you’ve been retired from Racing for a little while now here you are what brought it on well I’ve never really gone too far away from the sport you know I’ve still been working with British cycling and cams and uh you know I was working with the cams development

Team this year and I’m going to be working with J’s Pitcock and fum house a bit this year so um yeah I’ve still been involved in the sport just not so much in the racing side and yeah I just you know I’ve been working on this task force thing in the

Background amongst many other jobs and I was going to say a lot of other things you you at Sheffield last year doing the uh during the ride there yeah I was it in Sheffield I’ve work in the transport offices there um as the active travel commissioner which is um very much a

Full-time job trying to juggle everything at once but um hey I love the sport Larry as you know and it’s always been close to my heart I remember I remember 2005 Los Angeles that was just that was just such a mega event it was yeah and um yeah I was speaking to Young

Alex Beldon that I brought down in the the car yesterday was like on the way up and you know it was the same age as I was back in 2005 and it’s been an Epic Journey for the last 20 years and yeah all those da stories we have with Cal

And Gite and all the crashes and the wins and the losses and so on but um yeah I mean racing will be a bit different for me today Larry and I’ll be happy just to get round but um no I’m just really happy to be here and um yeah

I I know this whole like domestic scene’s been struggling a little bit but yeah I’m dead happy to be here and Alex D sit here and Chris Opie and it’s it’s good that we can still turn up we have a good laugh you mentioned the task force

This must be a help being in races talking to organizers just seeing exactly how it is talking to yeah yeah I tell you what you know I was with the organizer of the reservoir 2 day yesterday Steve um up north at the team launch yeah and um it’s really good

Again at the junior tour of Wales last year I just you speak to so many people at the race and you really get a feel for like you know what the the the barriers and the hurdles are and that’s the easy bit you know coming up with pragmatic solutions to the

Problem that don’t require uh load of money yeah the way the world’s changing I mean I raced in the 70s and it’s changed yeah yeah I I I really sense the frustration you know with um increasing costs red tape um and you know it’s uh

It’s a struggle and I get it and I guess the point is I’m really appreciative of everyone that puts in uh including yourself Larry that you know travels up and down the country country and like tries to promote this and organize events and sponsors and Commercial Partners like everyone plays their part

And you know in summary I think Now’s the Time to not ask what the Sport’s going to do for you but ask what you can do for the sport because um it needs a bit of input for everyone more than ever hang on bang on uh final one how many

Races are we going to see you at cuz you did say in your little email to me I’ll see you at some races how many is some um I I I reckon reality I reckon I’ll do half a dozen 6 maybe 12 just you know odd weekend here weekend there but I

Just want to enjoy it and uh yeah I’m happy to be here Che L all right good
