What we saw during this grand tour was a birth what can be called a monopoly (sic) in all departments of cycling (Worx-team). They will win many (very many) of races and tours ahead. BUT…this is by no means good for sport and competition… — Concerning AvV. For some reasons she was / is not at the same level as she was last year, although she has won 2 grand tours…
The traditional team sponsor mechanism clearly needs to change, for both men and women, in order for cycling to become a more serious sport. Most of these riders are severely underpaid for the work they do compared to other sports, and definitely not nearly enough to support a full-time career. The Yellow Jersey bonus for Jonas was half a million Euros, pre-tax, split multiple ways between teammates and staff. I mean, come on……
