Particularly coming to explore a new area, like Yorkshire is for me, and doing it by bike really opens you up to the experiences. People are normally super friendly when they see you rolling into their town and you’re on a bike and you’re just carrying a minimal amount of equipment people are really inquisitive.
Whilst of course the bike’s the best way in my humble opinion to explore the world on two wheels, it’s not just about the riding. It’s about discovering these beautiful little Yorkshire villages and little market towns. I mean there’s a lot of history in this area which I’ve really appreciated coming across and seeing by bike.
So I think the unique thing about Route YC is A – it’s really central. Like in the location where it is, I think it’s well accessible from pretty much any corner of the UK. It’s also really well connected by public transport. There’s a really nice mix of hills and coast. It’s a really nice variety.
And I think there’s also a good element of surprise in there. I think one of the great things about this route is that there’s so many varieties of how big you want your days to be, so you can really tailor it. So if somebody was coming out here on their first bikepacking trip then
They’d be able to tailor it so it was like really manageable days. And equally if people are out here and they’re really experienced then you’ve got that sort of options of making the days a bit more challenging and a bit harder. And I think that’s something quite unique about this route.
You’ve always earned your lunch, you’ve always earned your sleep by the time you’ve had a big day on the bike. So actually a warm welcome goes a really long way. I think I knew before I got here, but I’ve been really impressed with the Yorkshire welcome.
Last time I was here and the sun was setting and we were looking at this beautiful tree and like I said like the heather was all out and the landscape was all purple it was just like so stunning. And then we had last night in a very similar location but a completely different
Experience. The sun had gone down hours before and we were still up there and the moon just came out, a massive big full moon and you’re riding together and you can just see our lights twinkling away on this empty road. It was a really really special moment.
This time of year in the autumn with the colours of the leaves. I always enjoy singletrack and that sort of forest riding, but riding in autumn has been pretty special. A lot of my work is based around history, I do a lot of research before I plan those routes.
And kind of like try to find any pinpoints I can figure out. There’s always a big blank canvas before doing it and I think the more you dig into the history here, I think the more you see. Stories like Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Captain Cook and a couple of
Other people who’ve been here. Tolkien was inspired for I think The Hobbit in one place, so it’s those locations. I love going there and always try to imagine – right about 500 years ago this would have happened here.
And it’s quite special to be in a place and compare how it looks right now. So I would say to anybody who was coming along on it then really look at the route and decide what you want out of it. And
You’ll be able to tailor the overnighters and the coffee stops, whatever your needs are. Influencers in the wild Not influencer? Just do like move your arm, like a fist pump. I’m videoing. Yeah and one more time.

What a great film. Beautifully shot.
Having ridden parts of the route just last week, I feel this is a great place to ride. Great film Markus.
Always great video content when you see any or all of these three names in the credits!
Thank you Markus 🚲👍
I got a slight issue with the audio, dialogue is left channel only
Why do none of the links on your website work for the routes?
Such a great video, very inspirational. Thanks. Please come to Sussex. South Downs, Ashdown Forest, Pooh Bridge, Avenue Verte, East Grinstead, Downs Link. Perfect!
Nice film but to short.
Great video, I take it Yorkshire Dirt Dash will be based around these routes.
What a superb film 👏
Greay film. Just a heads up – spoken/interview audio only seems to come mostly of the left channel while music is stereo. Possibly a feature instead of a bug?
Thank you! My part of the world and you're giving me a new perspective on it guys. Some wonderful days to be had so close to home.
