In my opinion, the Bikeflip is one of the coolest flatland tricks out there. Even though I managed to do it for the first time already six months ago, I haven’t practiced it again since then, which means it’s still a challenge for me to do it again. In the first episode of “Learning a new Banger “I faced it again, this time all documented by the camera… Have fun! 🙂

I am Tim Höfel, 22 years old from Berlin and I’m a professional BMX flatland rider.   I’ve been all around the world with my little bike. Last year in Montpellier, France  I managed to do my first Bikeflip. Today I would like to face it again, after a long time

And this time I accompanied everything with the camera. That’s why   I came up with a format in which I would like to face this and many other difficult tricks. Welcome to the first episode of Learning a new Banger. In this video series

I would like to face various BMX Flatland and BMX Park tricks and document   the learning process with the camera, that means: the first test attempts, the first failed attempts,   the first small successes and so on. Of course it’s always different how long

It takes to learn a trick, I don’t know that before. So it may be   that the material comes from one day or is accompanied over months or years,   we will see it then. I thought of a very special trick for the first episode,

But I’ll show you later which one it is. I would say I’ll take my bike now   your and get started. Let’s go! I train on an upper floor of an parking garage, that is rarely used so I can train mostly undisturbed. Especially in winter

I’m grateful for this spot because it’s covered and lit, so I’m good against the early darkness   and frequent rain. I’m here at my home spot, it’s about  -2° outside, which means these are unfortunately unavoidable today. I’ll   start with a warm-up, about 15 minutes, and I’ll put the camera aside for now,

Let’s go! At these temperatures, warmup really means warmup. To get a feeling for the bike, I usually start the session with very simple tricks and short combos. But of course not everything always works out right away… So under these conditions a warm-up is a lot more difficult… My hands are really numb!

I’m not really warm, but at least I got the bike-feeling. For this episode I’m trying to do a very specific trick. To be honest, I managed to do it about 1-2-3 maybe four times half a year ago,   But I haven’t done it for a very, very long time, so it’s still

A challenge to do it again today. I’m talking about the Bikeflip! In my opinion   the bike flip is one of the coolest flatland tricks out there. It’s about jumping off the bike during a peg wheelie and flip the bike either 180 or 360°

And then of course land on it again. When the bike flip was new, it was one of the   most incredible tricks ever achieved. Today it comes in many different variants. The best example is probably Yu Katagiri, an 18-year-old rider from Japan,

Who has perfected the trick that much that he can land it safely in a contest. But for now I’ll leave it at a 180° bike flip. So, let’s go! At the beginning I have to get into the right position in order to jump off for the bike flip

However, the first attempts of the day were not really bright. Until it finally worked to this point. And again. I even missed by just a bit and my foot already hit the peg. But something like that continued for the next 15 minutes. The first part of the Bikeflip is definitely done,

That means I’m already in a position where I can jump off. I’m going to train it separately now, basically without starting the combo,   just to focus on the jump. I’ll try to land it. Let’s go! Without getting into the combo, I can focus more on the jump itself.

I noticed that it is very important where the pedals are, i.e. if the pedals are basically here   it’s very, very annoying to land on the peg, so I have to pay attention somehow,   that the pedals stay in this position.

We’re definitely getting closer to the whole thing. My right foot lands on the peg every time   I still have a few problems catching the handlebars, but that’s solvable. I would say we now have to move on to the third step, which is full attention

on the landing, that means: both legs on the pegs, both hands on the handlebars and somehow stay on the bike. As I said at the beginning of the episode,  I’ve actually already done it, about half a year ago. But there are flatland tricks where it is

The case that if you don’t do it for three weeks, it feels like you have to start all over again. And the bike flip is definitely one of them. And even though I knew what to focus on,   It just didn’t want to get better. It was probably the overcoming,

Which made it take longer than expected. The foot was very close! One important thing that I definitely just noticed is   to stay in front with your upper body over the bike. You basically have to get on the bike

Throw it up so you can land on it. Quite a disgusting feeling, but unfortunately it is necessary. And as the next try showed, that was exactly the key! However, you also should be ready for it… So no one has ever done anything that stupid…

Even if the bike flip was theoretically landed, the trick only counts if you stay on the bike But if you stick with it long enough, the decisive attempt will come at some point! Really really nice, I would say after about 150 attempts it finally worked.

I briefly considered whether I will land it today, because it really just wasn’t getting better    and then it worked! There you see again,   It’s definitely worth sticking with it! I have to say, of course it’s not the combo  but I don’t think it gets any better. It’s dark outside now,

It’s gotten very, very cold and I just don’t think it’s going to get any better today. I   But I’ll save it for a next episode. Feel free to write to me in the comments,   whether you liked it, whether it has potential, whether it’s a cool idea or not,

What I might do better. I know the location is very monotonous, I’m here at my home spot, all the time only here. But the parking garage here is actually a very, very good option for me  to train and accordingly make the videos here. But please comment

Whether you liked it! Thank you for watching and see you soon! Peace!
