The moment I realize I got a hernia there are two different types of injuries referred to as hernas and you should know the difference an inguinal hernia is what most people think of when they hear the term hernia it’s a gap in the abdominal wall that allows the inside contents like the intestines to bulge outwards and this often requires
Surgery to fix a sports hernia on the other hand really isn’t a hernia at all it describes more of a chronic pain that lasts weeks to months there’s no bulging of the abdomen or groin region but usually there’s pain around the hip cras or pelvic region these are commonly seen
With athletes who have groin pain when cutting twisting or lifting heavy weights some people think they have a sports arnia as it will mimic other forms of groin pain such as a strain adduct or longest muscle that will be painful with this strength test as well Sports hernas however can sometimes be
Painful with sit-ups or with coughing either way it’s probably a good idea to get checked out by a medical professional

Thats the exact exercise i was doing when i got my first Hernia. Bent over to pick up the 55 lb dumbbells, and on the way up felt a terrible burning pain in my groin area. Had trouble walking for a few days, so i went to my Doctor, and he confirmed it. The second Hernia i got was doing heavy Squats on a belt squat machine. Had the exact feeling like the first time so i knew right away i had another hernia. Chances are after your first hernia the second one on the other side isn’t far behind
Absolutely AMAZING content
One of my biggest fears, had the sports one a few times… But the inguinal oh boy
Hernia are good reasons to skip leg day (at least squats and deadlifts lol). I lift extremely heavy weights but I don't do those exercises and have never gotten a hernia.
That sucks so much, I helped my man through it, surgery and all… I am female but I'm very sympathetic about this.
It is the most common type of hernia men have, especially if they have to lift a lot for work or working out. A lot of times guys carry on with life unaware, or ignore it (wow comments!) until it becomes so painful or messes with your digestion too.
This doctor dude dismissing this automatically because the guy's working out is such bs, he should still get it checked out. He can possibly prevent having to go through surgery depending on the severity..
If anyone is having discomfort with theirs do this:
Lying down with your feet elevated (above heart / head level) is very effective for temporary pain relief for this..
Sorry for such a drawn out comment..
Get well soonish brother💙👊🏼
Another reason to skip leg day!😂
I got an anal fissure due to sumo deadlift. Is that even possible? It's all good now though after a mini surgery
Everytime i come on fitness YouTube i unlock a new fear and that has made me tone down my workouts and the intensity. Where im from, insurance doesn't exist for most of us and i definitely aint rich enough to treat anything i might pick up in the course of working out😅
I had one as a kid and am terrified of ever having another. My brother and dad also had them. Fuck hernias
Oh man I went a few months with my hernia before I went to get it fixed. I was 17 and throwing 315 up on bench. I definitely knew it went on my second rep. I continued to loft for the several months between until it got so painful I had to to get it fixed. I got the crappy mesh which has been absolutely painful for the last 12 years yet I didn't go to the doctor. So I missed the class action lawsuit…fuck me right?
It seems like the longer i live, the more i wish the human body would just evolve to get rid of these issues
What about a spinal disc hernia?
I got a sports hernia at work back in 2021. After 3 hours waiting in an empty clinic the doctor finally saw me and filed with the worker's comp insurance to get a ct scan to see what the damage was… only for worker's comp to deny the request, because seeing what the problem is wouldn't solve the problem. I ended up not having anything done; lost feeling in that little area I had the most pain in, so I have to assume it's scar tissue there now. Thanks, Liberty Mutual.
Do you get anus hernias or is it just called a hemorrhoid?
I realized about my hernia (L5-S1) when I was literally laying on the couch 🛋️, AFTER the training session was over 😂…
The fear of not being able to command your legs and feeling a blinding pain instead, has no words to be described 😢…
Anyways, 4mo ths of therapy after, I'm lifting once again.
Be really careful with your technique. Weight and strength will follow.
Learn how to pronounce inguinal and the proper description before you post !
That’s not how you say inguinal
Coach…how can one avoid this from happenning?
Are there any exercises to strengthen whatsoever walls?
Or is it something that cannot be avoided and rather depends on genetic structure or something?
Bro I hurt my knee doing that exercise lol soo I’ll never be doing that again and I wasn’t even going heavy
I got when I was bulking….. now is gone
Doctor visit? Nah, I'll just lay about till it heals.
I’ve been there….but all I did was cough. Nightmare zone every time allergy season comes around now.
I have 2 hernias and it's a 12 month wait for surgery lol
I think i had sport one before i don't know some times it was my balls has cramp and feel that only happens for me like a month or later on
Is that Jonathan Haggerty?
No wonder I get pain on my waist for no reason whenever I kick
so let's say i had surgery for a hernia (they put a net in there) 2 years ago and am now starting to hit the gym. Is there anything people with such a medical history should avoid? Asking for a friend.
I was doing situps in my room one day when I got a hurnia just to the left of my belly button. Felt the bulge and pushed it back inside. It didn't hurt bad but I've had no issues since. it was years ago and I've been scared to do situps since. Does anyone know if they have to have surgery every time or if it can resolve itself?
I reckon if I fix my anterior pelvic tilt and do reverse kegels my hernia will heal. I think it’s to do with my tight pelvic floor (19 male)
I’m currently recovering from a strain (thank god not a hernia, no bulge). I was doing the same exercise but holding a kettle bell on the opposite side of the leg being worked. Stupid move. I felt a pop, then a burn. It’s been around 2 months and I’m much better. About 70% recovered. Pro tip: Hold the weight in the center of your body or over the leg being worked.
I had that as a child for 2 weeks
