A short movie of our bikepacking trip in Portugal. From Faro to Lisbon with our two bikes, a small tent and minimal gear, cycling for around 400km trough smooth roads, sunny beaches and sandy hills.

Come with us on this first epic adventure and follow to see where the next one will take us… coming soon :)))))

Rebecca’s bike: Olympia Karbo Race (90’s carbon road bike) 25mm tyres

Riccardo’s bike: Trek Domane Al 2 (which got stolen recenly in Milan :(( ) 35mm tyres

We both had a light bikepacking setup: blackburn expandable frame bags, top tube bags on both bikes, Rebecca had a Topeak saddle bag while the tent was strapped underneath Riccardo’s saddle. Equipment included a 30L wet bag strapped on the Trek’s handlebar.

    Once Again

sh*t, I’m already tired Hi! Hello, we just got to Lagos. It was a bit tiring. A long trip, long time on the train and on the plane. Well if that was tiring… just wait for tomorrow Tomorrow’s going to be even more tiring. Look, what a cute town.

A lot of tiny white houses, plenty of elderly tourists. Not true, there’s a lot of younger ones as well. Hello everyone, while we were filming we forgot to include some clips and details, so here’s some comments from future us.

We were looking for a place to have dinner the first night in Portugal, someplace that would offer local cuisine, but every restaurant we got recommended was completely booked out, unfortunately, so in the end we opted for the least “typical” restaurant there was, apart from all the italian places.

We ended up in a Mexican restaurant that was blasting dance music We enjoyed the evening nonetheless. Back to the video. How is it after the heavy lunch we just got? Could be better… It’s all fuel! Ok, it’s almost the end of day one, we arrived in Aljezur, Rebecca is very happy.

Fist leg is almost done. There’s the church were we’re going to excommunicate Riccardo (I’m joking) There’s a castle, some old stones. The first day on the road was quite long and intense, Half on asphalt, till Chabouco and half on gravel, up to the first destination, just after Aljezur.

All under the burning heat. Tips for this type of path: travel light, drink plenty of water and, if possible, set up your bike with tyres wider than 25mm. It was doable but certainly not the easiest. Here we are, we set up the tent on the beach

We got to carry our bikes down the cliff, during which Rebecca… I fell and hurt my hand. How was this first day? Challenging but very nice. Here again from the future.. What a view! I’d say waking up to this was a great start of day 2

After putting away our tent and having breakfast we got back on the road, which was again mainly gravel. The fist stop was Odeceixe, for lunch we stopped in Azenha do Mar, while the final destination of the day was Cavaleiro. Back to the clips. What a weird specimen

Of sheep with antlers What’s there? And a weird specimen of of Rebecca pushing her bike. In her defence, it’s quite steep, so, she did great, although she’s probably struggling more doing it on foot. Oh, it’s a deer. It’s a deer? I was just wondering since when sheep have antlers.

An albino deer? I’ve never seen one like this before. What a great climb, right? Just AMAZING! Especially if you cycle it downhill and not up like we did. Here we are in Cavaleiro. We bought something to eat for dinner and for the morning after in the only shop there was in town

After which we headed to the cliffside where we got to pitch the tent and camp for the night. Our room had the best view. That’s for sure! To the video… What a great sand piste! We’ve been pushing our bikes along in the sand for at least two hours

Next time I will pay more attention when planning the track, for sure, since pushing road bikes in the sand is no fun. I didn’t understand that you were planning a… I haven’t planned anything …a pilgrimage-to-Santiago-style trip (ironic) Well, this way we get to do some soul-cleansing. You mean swearing as much as we’re doing now is going to help cleanse out our souls? Exactly! Ocean on the horizon! We saw the “great golden arches” so we stopped at Mc Donald’s to eat….typical Portuguese food We cycled…50 km? Yep! Only 50… Only? That means we have not too many left! Today we did a total of… 64 km. We cycled quite the distance! I’ve done well, haven’t I? You did super good! Look at the sun telling you how amazing you did.
