[Ep. 1016] “Nobody cycles in the rain.” Except hundreds of thousands of Dutch people, such as these people in Utrecht on a rainy morning late October 2023. More information in the blog post: https://bicycledutch.wordpress.com/?p=25307
for real tho, everybody with an umbrella in their hand is an idiot and low key dangerous. I have having to anticipate them having to juggle both their bike and their umbrella once a small gust of wind completely throws them off their balance
Rain added to even a gentle hill suddenly becomes a nightmare and you sweat like mad under under your waterproofs, the sweat goes stale and you stink. Its so easy in the flat Netherlands.
I cycle in the rain with a clear visor. It not only helps protect me from the rain but keeps me warm from cold winds and even protected me from a falling branch once. A single piece of curved polycarbonate will transform rain riding 😅
Before my homeoffice time I kind of prefered biking in the rain. My route was pretty nice and with good weather it was crouded with strollers, joggers and slow bicyclists.
It looks as though it’s been raining but it’s not actually raining very much in the video. Hardly anyone is wearing waterproof over-trousers and those wearing jeans don’t appear to even have damp thighs. For me that’s the worst bit- the rain runs off the bottom of your raincoat and you get a wet patch on the front of your legs if you’re not wearing over-trousers. It’s not the sort that dries in a few minutes but requires a change of clothes.
Soaking wet from the rain on your way back home, screaming and laughing maniacally! Come get me! .. When the wind hits you in the polder though, that's when you get mad.
It's still a HELL NO for me! Unlike the folks in this video, I have an Afro hair texture (shoulder-length 4C hair texture). Rain + humidity = shrinkage, and thoroughly messing up my hairdo (which could take hours to "repair" after rain). So biking in the rain is OUT, especially if I need to travel for work. I would take a train, bus, or drive……
Wait until they find out about new tech, the horse and buggy. Then you don't have to be in the elements and aren't arriving to work already wet and tired after bicycling 15 miles. These poor, primitive people.
Rain, that's nothing, snow, black ice, on your bike and of to school. If you wear rain clothing, you will swear so much you are not only wetter from sweating than being rained on, you also get smellier during the day 😂 just get wet it's water it will dry 😂
I live in The Netherlands, it’s not nice to bike in the rain like this channel always makes it look. You are cold, soaked and it gives you wrinkles from exposing your face to the harsh temperatures constantly. I could go on
Not quite the same now that it's icy. Yesterday the remaining snow turned to ice but overnight it seems the salt wagons have been out – bless their hearts! People still out today, more so the younger ones & moving just a little more slowly…
I remember spending whole afternoons in highschool with wet jeans drying up in the heated classrooms.By the time I rode him they were dry so they could get wet again on the ride home.Winter and summer.I' m 61 now and still get wet when it rains.Rain is wet.
It is always great to see Utrecht on a regular rainy day! I got to experience cycling during rush hour in Utrecht while it was raining and it was packed with cyclists. I ride through rain and snow all the time here in the States. The bike paths aren’t empty when it rains, but there are definitely people who avoid it. As time goes on and the bike network expands, I think more people will discover they won’t melt in the rain!

Nice!

Cycling in the rain makes you feel alive
Nobody cycles in the rain?
Gosh. I guess I need to tell everyone in Britain that they should get the bus instead.
Mate, if we didn't cycle in the rain, we'd never cycle at all! 🤣
Well, that's not really raining. Let's be honest, when it is really raining, you have to stupid to get out with the bike. It's even dangerous.

Yes
I'm from Malmö Sweden and we just had the most snow I've seen in 10 years and people are still cycling through it.
All ages on bicycle ….and everyone looks fit ! 😊

Ah yes, the good old times of sitting in a damp classroom with 30 other kids who all have soaking wet jeans on as well. Those were the days.

Americans: Nobody cycles in the rain.
Dutch: Stop being a pansy, put on a hooded raincoat, and get on the bike.
You don't melt because of a bit of rain….
Yep! That's us!

Wish Calgary was this flat. Would help.
"Je bent toch niet van suiker?" (You're not made of sugar, are you?) (If I'm remembering that right)
-My Opa (Grandpa from Amsterdam)
I mean you're absolutely right sir, i have just watched a 3 minutes video of rainy empty roads and cars passing by in the rain
And even with snow and ice. Have seen some slide off, they just get back up and go on their merry way. Can't do that with a car.

No such thing as bad weather, just make sure you dress appropriately.
