Bikepacking for beginners. I try bikepacking using ultralight equipment on a 2-day tour in the south of England. A year after shooting this I discovered wild camping is not permitted in the New Forest, an honest mistake on my part, so please don’t do it.
What equipment did I use, how did it perform, would I do anything differently?

Enjoyed this a lot – more of the same in the highlands please!!! How was the Cloud Base sleeping mat? Thinking of buying one as it looks good value.
great outing!
Excellently produced video!!
A good tent for bikepacking that’s lightweight would be the SixMoonDesigns Luna solo. Around 700g and then get a carbon tent pole.

Got the same PHD sleeping bag, very nice but expensive, however I now prefer a Cumulus 350.
Enjoyed the vlog 😊
Holy god you sound just like John Craven. Great video.
I did my first bikepacking trip this year. 160 miles over 2 days down and around the Gower, S.Wales. I used an Alpkit 20ltr seatpack and bar bag. Found them to be great. I also used an Alpkit Dumo airbed. It was a learning curve. I've got a frame bag for my next try as my back pack hurt even though I'm pretty used to wearing one. I really enjoyed it and am making plans for next year. Would love to do a Scotland adventure some time! Definitely takes a while to get where your going mind. You just have to chill and enjoy the ride 🙂
Good vid, that's impressive how far u can cycle in one day away from london ! , Recognise those tarptent colours anywhere , I got dw moment 😃. Some good advice on your vid , and like your setup, interesting about the 10mph that's prob my speed . I've got a mtb and lots of wild camp gear , and it suddenly dawned on me this autumn , that this bikepacking is probably a great idea !! especially with a hip issue , hoping all the weight mostly on the bike is the future , looking forward to giving it a go soonish , prob south downs way 👍🙂
Thanks John 👍🏻
Great video matey
what was the tire width on this trip? Unsure what tire width for the C2C ride.
Nice one Simon I enjoyed the video
대단하시네요. 영상 잘보고 갑니다.
All the filming can't help your average speed either! Joking aside that was really enjoyable: totally professional and non of the usual unnecessary blather, top class.
Nice content. Just subscribe to your channel. Check mine also mostly outdoor adventure. https://youtu.be/FtlLXm9etyI. Thank you.
How I drunk coffee across the UK and some other stuff about bikes and shit
Is it legal ,to camp in the new Forest ?
Well made film, clear concise information. I don’t like following routes on my Garmin either.
I lived 10 mins from where you where sat on the cliff top 🙂
how did you get all that stuff to one bag ? you may make tutrial, how to pack stuff 🙂
Morning your komoot is not working
Good information in this video, was looking for some gear, thanks. I'm getting panniers, I want to travel slow, and i always take too much stuff! Cheers
I live in Winchester, so nice to see familiar spots and gratifying that someone lives in the highlands and comes here for an adventure! Thinking about having a go at King Alfred’s Way before the weather turns; doing that with the guide should be a good way of countering the gps navigation mindset you mention and really connect with the landscape (including that Basingstoke canal)… if I was a bit more prepared with the kit perhaps I’d be on my way already but I fear if it starts getting much more autumnal it may be a bit over-ambitious for me on my touring bike…
Audax is not Bikepacking, and certainly not Bikecamping. Enjoy.
Just found your channel was a pleasure to watch. I'm a pannier guy but that's because I'm also a bushcrafter and love my army surplus. Your bikepacking bag wouldn't even hold half my sleeping bag. But we all different 😂
this guy sounds like grown up stewie from family guy
Funny Life man. I LOVE It 👍🏾
The idea of bikepacking is to take life in the slow lane. If you are rushing; watching your garmin; concerned about time in the saddle … well you are missing out on the plethora of things to see around you. That said, well done on going lightweight … travel light … travel far!
Please will you wear mountain bikes gear and not Lycra. Also ditch the weird fingerless gloves. Also I’m calling BS that you had all that in the saddle bag.
Good commercial. But a bit long of a commercial
How did that all fit into just a tail pack 😮
Check out the Bike wanderer on YouTube. Maybe you'll like 😏
Right in my neck of the woods. Basingstoke canal run parallel to where I live and we use it a lot to get to different sections of gravel in this area. Gets a bit busy at times but then it is a shared space.
Yes, you've really got to knock down your expectations in terms of cycling.
I did the South Downs Way with bikepacking kit and couldn't manage alot of the climbs I know I've done before. When I bikepack now, I pay alot more attention to managing mileage/elevation.
Gilet! Very posh, it's Body warmer up north 😂🙏🇬🇧❤️
Pretty good info… Looks like you didn't skimp a whit on your kit, probably a good investment if you're gonna go repeatedly.
