n October 2008, ten members of the Gooch gang from south Manchester were charged with a considerable amount of gang-related offences.
In 2000, gang members Colin Joyce and Lee Amos were caught at their ‘nerve centre’ which was a house in Moss Side, where they were discovered with what was described as an ‘Extraordinary Array Of Firearms.’
They were sentenced to nine years in jail in 2001 but were released early, on probation, in 2007, and with their release a fresh round of shootings ensued.
Mr Joyce and Mr Amos were among 11 other members of the ‘Gooch gang’ who were accused with a ‘record of crimes,’ which included the murders of Ucal Chin and Tyrone Gilbert, in April 2009.
Manchester’s senior prosecutor, John Holt, praised the verdicts as having “enormous significance for public safety.”
To reduce the danger of witness intimidation from other gang members, their trials were held 35 miles apart at Liverpool Crown Court.
