The Christmas void and visiting cannon hall farm with Ridgeline

Went on a trip to canon hall farm in Barnsley where they film springtime on the farm and the one that’s just been on before Christmas, was meeting my mate Nigel for a brew and a catchup, stunning farm shop!! Amazing animals and no contact which makes total sense now I’ve had it explained to me.

in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.

we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve

I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

Intervals um this is the boiler oh this just came in the post it’s a running belt for me to put my phone in I got quite excited about this um I actually lost it later on in the day after I shoved it in my pocket and forgot to

Take it out anyway this is our AR term 60 plus boiler um it’s brilliant uh it basically is just a big wood burner with a kind of um Hollow honeycomb kind of pattern uh mesh of you know metal in the back of it anyway Water Runs Through It

The heat runs through the middle of those heats the water goes into the H well it Heats those buffer tanks and then um some coils run through the middle of the buffer tanks they heat up with the heat up the water that goes into the house does the same

In there and that’s how the water is heated um it is pretty much to be honest as simple as it looks these weren’t simple to chop by the way they were’t absolute pain in the ass um I was actually giving it some as well but yeah

Um we do this every day if we don’t do this there is no heating which is honestly a bit of a pain in the ass because you know when you’ve got a really busy day on you just can’t be bothered um going across chopp in the

Wood lighting the boiler etc etc um I did try lighting it from the top that didn’t work so I lit it from the bottom it was Grand and away it went you’re looking for this coming out of the um chimney so you want this to be clear

Ideally if it’s a little bit dirty looking it means the wood’s slightly contaminated I took a picture of this just with wishful thinking that the shed might one day have a PO of gold and make us some money we then came to rise dad’s house and here we had to scrape up all

This is how they feed stuff you drop it in here and you turn it and it turns an or drops it down there and into these little things here you w think he used to be in the Army like seriously it’s cold it’s cold I’m not cold it’s only my heart is cold

It’s one in 100,000 and they get 300,000 visitors so they were getting three cases of ecoli in children a year through serious lifethreatening Eco liers in like through no fault of their own kids putting the fingers in the mouth and whatnot so they’ve made it that you don’t touch your animals at all
