One of the earliest motor races in post war Germany was the “Großer Preis von Braunschweig”, held on the Autobahn near the rebuilding town of Brunswick. The town was nearly flattened by the British Royal Air Force during World War 2, and was occupied by the British military during its rebuilding. The first event, on August 4th, 1946, brought an alleged 40,000 spectators to watch a series of motorbike races. The next year a car race was held after the bike race, with a Volkswagen (still called VLK at the time) getting the marquee’s first win. Although the races were enormously successful, blocking the eastbound section of the Autobahn for an entire weekend was deemed no longer plausible.

By 1948 Brunswick was in suitable condition to host a motor race, and local residents petitioned the local British commander to use Prinzen Park. The German government initially rejected the proposal citing “fuel conservation”, but the British commander had fuel shipped in for the race.

The annual event lasted until 1952, after a motorcycle sidecar race injured 3 spectators. For 1953, a different route east of the city was used, but after one race the route was still considered too dangerous by the local government, ending racing in Brunswick for good.

    1. Sergio Loro's track work is breath taking. This is where Kunos' own Porsche 718 RS 60 Spyder really comes to justice with its early annular disk brakes, low weight fragile suspension, you can really feel throwing the anchor, racing over cobblestones or hitting the tram rails. And then much added immersion raced in VR highest possbile settings, bang wheels to various skin packs of same car type. This track is just so much me; the scent of historical afterglow and the clear attention to detail testify to pure passion ❤

And David's Alfa Romeo P2 is a blast driving too, indeed!

So goood to have Sergio Loro and Daniel Finley's Historic Sim Studios among us, continuously gifting us with pinnacle classic content ❤

I think I have to try this combo in VR before weekend is over, though frankly no time.
I can sleep in another life 😄

      Thanks for the display.
