Authorities are investigating the death of American ice hockey player Adam Johnson after his neck was cut by a skate blade during a game in England. An investigation is underway into the incident. Mike Eruzione, whose 1980 Winter Olympics USA National Team win was dubbed the “Miracle on Ice,” said the other player’s “foot should never have been that high.”

Someone should check into seeing if Petgrave has any martial arts training because that kick looked good and if has that kind of training then it was clearly intentional, maybe not to slice the throat but to make contact with his foot (blade) for sure.

Unfortunately, it was a very aggressive and angry way to play the game. Super sad on every level, particularly for the family of the deceased. May they rest in peace, and hopefully find some solace in this very difficult situation.
Ive seen skates come up above the chest level twice in the NHL. and the hits that caused that were 10x more vicious that this. His reputation isnt helping him here. It looks like it may have been intentional. Did he intend to kill him? Probably not, but its just too suspect to not rule out this was intentional.

And it’s sad that Johnson’s teammates are defending the culprit. They saw it live at full time speed. It’s impossible to see how he extended his skate towards Johnson with intent to make contact. I bet if those players watched the replay, they will have second thoughts

I teach dance. The leg position and height was PURPOSEFUL. It didn’t happen accidentally. The culprit may not have intended death. But, he intended extreme harm. This is clearly an unfortunate accident where the perpetrator was accidentally able to throw a Bruce Lee Enter the dragon style flying kick to that poor man's throat.
About as accidental as bruce bowens kick all those years ago in the NBA.
This was no accident. It was a very malicious and reckless move by a well known dirty player. He pretty much elbowed an opposition player to get to Johnson, who had possession at the time, he then lifted his left leg in a sidekick style and kicked out. He then completed this foul by pretending to fall clumsily and unawares – like a dramatic footballer. These are accomplished and very technical skaters – they can stop and turn on a coin. It was a foul which went too far. It's not American football on ice.
Exactly why would you lift your leg that high off the ground. Never above the knee this has been a rule in Junior hockey and college for a long time

Watch the video in slow motion, and his left leg, the leg that is elevated a half second later into the throat, gets stuck on another player right before contact with Johnson. It's incredibly fast in real time, but its enough contact that if he is pulling his leg muscles towards a check at that point, it slingshots his foot up. There is a ton of controlled force involved in the type of hit he was intending onto Johnson, but none of it would have directed upwards until the incidental contact with another player. It was all geared towards a hip/blind side check to a forward entering the zone. Regardless of what kind of player this guy is, dirty or not, I cannot see how those movements are intentional for him to kick him. Frame by frame, slow it down, then see it again in real speed and there is no way you could control that kick. Just my objective opinion.

In the commercial he says he wasted "$1000s of dollars on dollar store knives"… as if he literally bought 1000s of knives from the dollar store, and no matter how bad they all were, he just kept buying and buying and buying them… and this is the man we're supposed to listen to and take seriously? why is everyone afraid to call it what it is: MURDER!. it is MURDER!. as a hockey player myself you know you have sharp blades on your feet and you know what will happen if you kick in someone's direction with those blades attached to your feet/boots. this was done deliberately. Matt Petgrave murdered Adam Johnson. Matt Petgrave is a dirty player and he will murder someone else again if he isn't brought to justice.
He is also kicking outward after his leg goes up that high. Smh. How can anyone not see it was done with malicious intentions.

Dan Abrams I know you are capable of providing better coverage than this. It has been three weeks and there has been no statement from Petgrave! There has been no eord from the league on his status as a player. There have been no witnesses statements and no additional videos from spectators that were actually present. If an ordinary citizen did this on a lical skating pind or rink they would already be charged.
