Winter comes quickly in Katmai and bears must get fat to survive it. In the bear world, fat exemplifies success. It is the fuel that powers their ability to endure winter hibernation as well as the key to their reproductive success. Learn more about the importance of fat for the survival of this year’s Fat Bear Week contestants with explore.org’s resident naturalist Mike Fitz and rangers from Katmai National Park.

It was fun learning more about how bears hibernate it was interesting thanks Mike Fitz
I always learn so much when I listen/watch this program. Thanks to the rangers, and to Mike for all the info.
This is such a great experience.
Greetings from the BIG SKY. I want to vote but finding the right place is hard.
How does a cub know which bear is it's mother? Is it by smell and sight?
Awesome! 🐻🤎
Fabulous so inspiring & informative, loved hearing more details on hibernation so Thank you to all…Love FAT BEAR WEEK♥️♥️♥️
I love Holly.
Torpor vs hibernation-so they are aware enough, not totally sound asleep.
What is the white clay like substance the bears eat? It looks like they always scoop it up near vegetation.
I am declaring myself to be in Team Sow this year – a Grazer vs. Holly match-up would be the pinnacle. But I have been a Grazer fan for the past 3-4 yrs of following the Brooks bears, and this is the first time I have seen her without cubs to support. Also the first year seeing Holly being single. Just wow!
Thank you Naomi for your discussion about the implications of having to raise cubs on a female bears' ability to put on fat.
Thank you so much! It's been a fun summer with the bears. Otis will always be my favorite 😊
Thank you for another brilliant bear video
❤️❤️❤️🎈🐻🎈
Bucky v Holly …. what kind of Sophie's Choice is that?
Has the Holly ballot stuffing issue been addressed?
whatever became of Bucky's old nemesis 856?
This is an amazing experience we are enjoying from the UK, thanks for all your hard work, for looking after the bears and sharing with the world!
32 Grazer ALL THE WAY! 🤣🤣🤣
