Why don't they just add obstacles and make it a cyclocross course? Gravel is stupid. So are cobbles.
Cobbles and gravel are just plain dumb.
A grand tour isn't a patchwork of every single features of road cycling, it's not supposed to include it all.
All it does is detract from the uniqueness of other races like Paris-Roubaix or Strade Bianche.
When it's wet, cobbles and gravel become a muddy mess with huge risks for riders. Injuries are not entertaining.
When it's dry,, there is so much dust kicked up by cars you can't see a thing.
Why include it ?
What's next ? A XC stage ?
Why not a bmx one ?
What about freestyle and high jumps ?
Maybe an elimination race on the track then ?
How about an alley cat in Paris on brakeless fixed gears and open roads for the last stage ?
It's just silly.
These riders go sooo fast compared to the old times, maybe it’s time to adjust the routes accordingly.
