  1. As a long time fan of Lanterne Rouge I am hyped for this preview, as a fan of Wout’s yearly cobblestoned monuments campaign not so much 😭 The Van Aert camp needs a W at some point

  2. Most interesting guy for me is Luca Vergallito. He was the Zwift winner 2022 and held many important KOMs before he entered the Alpecin dev team for 2023. He has been promoted to the pro team for 2024.

  3. When it comes to MVDP at the Tour, I think the risk of him crashing in a sprint leadout is very high….maybe too high to send him, or at least to not make it worth it to send him, if he doesn't do leadouts

  4. VDP won't do Amstel. His main target in spring will be RVV and I think it's even a slight possibility that he skips Roubaix to prepare for Nove Mesto. He will do 2-3 MTB world cups before the Tour and preferably a couple of other MTB races if they can find any that fits the schedule. He might finish the Tour but might also step off on the first or second rest day. I don't think they really look beyond olympics yet but Vuelta, MTB and/or road + gravel worlds may be options depending on how many stages he does in the Tour and how his MTB racing goes. Philipsen and Groves will do well again. I think one of them will win Gent-Wevelgem.

I also expect the new guys, especially Kielich, Laurance and Van Tricht, to step up and give the team more depth. And Hermans as well if he gets a better program (more rest, no Basque country) and avoids getting hypothermic and sick at Brabantse Pijl.

Doing better than this season on results will be almost impossible but they can get close and have more wins and strong performances across the team.

  5. Inofficial LR 2024 Win-Predictions Tracker

    Alpecin-Deceuninck (17 in 2022) – Benji 13 / Patrick 12

TOTAL: Benji 13 / Patrick 12 (out of 179 race wins including GCs)

  6. Talking about MVDPs schedule, don’t forget he will have to race MTB world cups before the Olympics so he can have a good start position. He said that was important after he did the MTB test event in France this year. He might transition over to that after spring classics and skip ardennes.

  7. I would lire to see MVDP going a bit different calendar, going with less clasics and focus on LBL which I think he can win. And then do the giro and a big MTB block with the olympics. And try to win the Worlds again. Like if he tried to turn into more of a classic climber.

  8. Vergallito is often called with his Strava nickname: "Il Bandito".

If you refer to him as Il Bandito you'll gain a lot of reputation with Italian listeners of the podcast ❤

  9. It's true, teams sacrifice and plan a season around the chance for a rider like VDP to win worlds, but then VDP wears rainbow stripes all year for the team, not the national team.
