Edinburgh is definitely one of the most charming, low-profile cities I have ever been to. Marrying history and nature, the city has a lot to offer. When in the city, one can enjoy the water, hike in Arthur’s Seat, have spectacular views from Calton Hill, and visit the highlands if one were to drive for an hour or two. Edinburgh has the most fortified castle in the UK. The king was enthusiastic about the latest and greatest in warfare, so the castle was equipped with a lot of the newest and strongest canons. This could only be amplified by the strategic placement of the fortress on a hill.

This video features walking through some of the parts of Edinburgh where some of the characters and places from Harry Potter might have been inspired.

13:20 George Heriot’s School, that may be the inspiration for #hogwarts is a school with four houses: Greyfairs, Castle, Raeburn and Lauriston. It was intended as a charitable school for fatherless children – orphans. That may be an inspiration for the character of #harrypotter

16:30 Greyfriars Kirkyard is a cemetery where some people having the same names of the characters in Harry Potter novels were buried. Thomas Riddell, the name of #voldemort is inspired. In the cemetery, there are also Robert Potter, William McGonagall, Elizabeth Moodie and Margaret Louisa Scrymgeour Wedderburn.

27:30 Victoria Street is a steep-sloping street where buildings merge into two streets with one overlooking the other. It is very similar to #diagonalley from the novels.
