In episode two we explore the incredible fjord roads. Fjords take millions of years to form. They represent vitality and strength. Each year thousands of people come to Norway to visit the fjords but few people know about these roads and nothing beats cycling down them with the sun shining away.

Have you cycled in Norway? If yes, what are your favorite fjord roads?

  1. Wow! Absolutely breathtaking. Funny though, I was just talking about you and your videos this weekend when somebody asked me what would be my first favorite destination if I ever won the lottery. I answered Norway instantly. Now I can't wait for the best gravel roads in Norway since I do particularly like gravel riding, maybe more than I do tarmac roads. Thanks again Matthew for making me dream.

  2. Hi Matthew! I've really enjoyed your "best of" videos and can't wait for the next one. The only problem is that I need more vacation/time off from work because I want to them all as soon as possible! I also hope that your "best of" gravel roads will feature the gravelroads of Nordmarka, being so accesible for so many people, even though they're not as exotic the gravelroads in far away places!

  3. Amazing stuff Matthew! I know how difficult it is to shoot and at the same time enjoy the ride. Highly appreciated work. It may be frustrating not to get many views for this hardwork but I am 100% sure you will get there. You will celebrate many many k subs soon 😊

  4. What I think? Wonderful, but where are top 6 to 10? 🙂 Looking forward to see more of this type … because I'd like to avoid your tunnel – heavy traffic experiences and create trips around those beautiful epic routes … maybe including your top 5 gravel routes. Any chance to see your routes on komoot?

  5. your videos never disappoint Matthew! I was so happy when I opened my YT homepage and found out you published something new. Thank you for what you are doing. I'd like to ask you if you got any tip on how to train climb living in a flattish land (Finland). I put Norway on my bike trip wishlist and would like to be fit enough for the climbs.

  6. Epic Video, very well done!!
Other amazing fjord roads are the 862 along the Fjords of Senja or the 91/E6 next to the Lyngenfjord.

  7. Hi Matthew. Loving your videos. Planning a trip to Norway with our road bikes at some point. We have never been cycling in Norway before so trying to get up to speed with the geography of the country. I have managed to pin point the roads to Hyen and the roads around the Hardangerfjord, but I am struggling to locate the other rides that you mention. Could you give me a few pointers – village names / start points / end points? Thanks. Looking forward to watching more videos!

  8. I grew up right by the Hjørundfjord, but now live in Bergen. Miss the fjord and the alps / mountains there. The pictures of the mountains in this video give me good childhood memories, I remembered as a small child often fantasized about how to go up on the steepest sides and peaks of the mountains there. You have a nice youtube channel, thank you Matthew!

  9. You, sir, make great and interesting videos. I really can't understand how you have only 5500 views at the time I am writing this. How YouTube makes suggestions to people are of course a mystery, and I don't know how to promote videos on YouTube. But, if I could help in any way, I would suggest showing it to TV stations. The reason I think like this is that you edit your vidoes in ways that are fun and interesting to watch. Well, I have seen a lot of your videos now, and I still want to see more. That concludes the praise from me this time, looking forward to many more vidoes from you.

  10. This was a(nother) real gem! I'm not a cyclist, I'm a rock climber, so have visited a lot of the places in your videos but probably seen them with slightly different eyes. You've managed to find some real sweet spots in this country 🙂 Is it possible to ask how you've ended up living in Norway..?

  11. Hi Matthew! Thank you for posting–these roads and scenery are breathtaking! Where can I find or download the bike routes for these rides? Or do you list the towns in point A to B?

  12. You are absolutely spot on when it comes to the no. 1 fjord in Norway; Hjørundfjorden! In lack of a better word, it's just INSANE. I would also add Tysfjord which features Norway's national mountain, Stetind, Lyngenfjord with the picturesque Lyngen alps and the criminally underrated Efjord . Hard to pick no. 5 among the 1700 named remaining fjords, though…

  13. Those last words hit me right in the heart. Years ago, with my brother and a friend, we walked the entire Pyrenees … an amazing adventure. I always told myself that someday I had to do it again, now I'm not so sure. Those carefree days will never come back….🥲

  14. Matt, I'm from Denmark and have cycled quite a bit here in my own country. Your videos give me good reason to cycle in the Norwegian fjords.
There are probably good transport options to these places from e.g. by train or bus if I don't want to cycle all the way.? Expect the starting point to be Oslo and arrive there by ship.

  15. Love the content. Can’t seem to find the old road number 7 by the fjord. I can only find the vei 7 that crosses hardangervidda. Is there a google maps point for the part of the road in the video?

  16. Thanks so much for your beautiful videos Matthew, inspired me too for my first bikepacking in Norway. Hjørundfjorden – I got there from Ørsta by a new looking road to Store Standal (looks like a part of that was only gravel before) and that valley was one of the highlights of my trip, definitely recommended to those coming to the fjord from south/west. Will have to come back for the other side of the fjord with Norangsdalen though 🙂
