I do pretty scary sometimes.😮 i cant get on a plane.i know the odds of a crash.means nothing to me.i won 10000 on a scarch ticket.i looked up the odds,one out of 72000.thats one seat out of gilette stadium.the odds of being that seat,forget it right? Nope,it happened,can happen on a plane.ill stay down here thank you.

Let's see, what can I watch to help me get over my fear of flying….I suppose my essential fear boils down to this—-it is the only mode of transportation where either everything goes 100% okay—or everyone dies. There is no in between! Car crashes are certainly not guaranteed to produce fatalities. Boats that sink don't always go down with everyone on board. Train crashes don't always cause all to perish.

    But planes are a different story. If you hit the ground at 400 or 500 mph, there is no way to survive that. Maybe one day we will develop air flight that uses different ways of staying in the air—like some kind of anti-gravity technology that would prevent crashes by falling from the sky, but until then—everything will be 100% fine—or everyone dies. Most of the time everything is fine, I know.

  4. Interesting that if the pilots don’t survive the crash, the investigation more times than not concludes “pilot error” is the cause. If they survive and can explain what they experienced, the airlines may have to take the blame.

  5. Hats off to the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board for solid leadership and transparency in international air transportation policy and accident investigation.

  7. At no point should the pilot be able to rip the tail off. He didn't move his rudder "violently". The Rudder ratio mechanism was not operating properly.

  8. I love these videos because they only reaffirm the fact that I will never fly. I have made it 63 years without setting foot on a plane, and there's no reason to start now. Ok, I am about to start getting the comments that flying is safer than driving and I am sure that is true. But if you are flying in a storm and being bounced around like clothes in a laundry dryer, you're just SOL. But if you are in a car, you can pull over and wait for the storm to pass. You can't do that on a plane.

  9. I hope people realize that these Smithsonian videos are incomplete and merge into the next crash without completing the preceding one and with little clue that they have moved on. You can find more detailed videos that fill important info, findings and recommendations to improve safety. With a bit more attention to finishing one story before moving on would benefit all and a better reputation for Smithsonian and wouldn’t take much effort. I find it a shame that they choose to leave you dangling and without prelude delve into the next incomplete story. I am disappointed in the lack of quality.

  10. (1:55:24) "A light, SWEET crude?" Sweet? I don't think you're supposed to be tasting it.

    Yes, of course "sweet" can mean "awesome" or "cool," or as an expression of excitement or description of personality, but it wouldn't be in placed in a sentence like he says it. "Brent crude is sweet!" would be believable, but not the way he said it, so that really only leaves the "taste" usage.
