EPISODE #120
Recently I hit a pretty big milestone in my sobriety journey… one that I never thought would be possible at the start. Now 1000 days sober I look back on some of the changes I never believed could happen in my life.
Making the choice to remove alcohol from my life has effected me in so many positive ways, in fact too many to contain in one video. So in thus video I focus on some of the best things I have noticed whilst on this journey.
I hope that if you are on a sobriety journey yourself or you are thinking if starting one… that this might help you. Just know that you deserve a better life and you can achieve it.

    1. Funny how a lot of what you've said now resonates with me… I've been sober for just over 7 months now and my cycling has come on leaps and bounds… there's no way I'd be getting up at 5.30 to go out and do 75 miles on the bike if I was still drinking!!!! Good news on the move, would've been nice to have a social ride seeing as you only live down the road 😉

    2. Your video really struck a cord. I was only speaking to someone yesterday who knew Mark Reilly (Reilly bikes). Mark was an alcoholic and sadly died in 2021. Your determination is inspiring and hope it helps a lot of other people. Also your other half is and has been amazing!

    3. Well done man and huge kudos for putting yourself out there. Takes a big person to own up to problems and work to solve them. ~1.5 years sober myself (I don't count) and have only seen huge benefits. Really wish I would have done this sooner in life if not for myself but for the others around me. What you say about removing alcohol and fitness consistency are 100% spot on. I wasn't as fit at 21 as am today at 40+. Life only gets easier when you remove the things holding you back.

    4. Congrats man!! Quit seven years ago when my daughter was born. Didn’t find cycling till about a year ago but man life is good now. Don’t miss alcohol even a little. Quitting soda was actually way harder for me. I miss that a lot… I would consider throat punching the pope for a Pepsi sometimes.

    5. Well done mate. Big respect. I gave up alcohol 12 years ago…not addicted, just a lifestyle and frankly I enjoyed it but since giving up and having a much more healthy lifestyle is, as you suggest, a life changing thing. I do miss a pint of Guinness though….stay safe. Mark

    6. Hi Thomas, 1000 days is cracking and the first point is 100% – An army career and ex rugby player is all about the binge drinking but since Feb I haven't touched a drop of Alcohol socially nothing as changed I just feel great after a social function. I have cycled 1500km further than last year already as most weekends I am now up early. Also i noticed my mood for 3/4 days after a good night out was low, on top of all that I work in a job where mental health can be heavily impacted and Alcohol can just make it worse. I have said on my 50th I will have a red wine BUT the way I feel now I may just sack that off and yep it defiantly impacted on my wife and that is the best thing about me going out and not drinking. Great video as ever.

    7. Congrats on your 1000 days, I'm a recovering addict on 4 years of sobriety myself, and returning to cycling this winter as-well (on the trainer) after being away from triathlon and sports in general for years. Be kind to yourself.

    8. Can I honestly say after 14 months sober and doing my first Ironman last month this video completelys confirms my status on life.
Thank you for sharing and keep crushing it 👊🏻

    9. 283 days for me today. As a musician (a tattoo'd one, somewhat unsurprisingly..!) and a lifelong roadie – there have been some downsides to being sober after a life of… not being… I've found so many challenges being sober which I wasn't expecting – but, ironically, being sober has allowed me to deal with these challenges and unexpected issues. Thanks for this vid. It means the world and just what I needed today, you ****ing Youtuber.

    10. Just hit 7 months sober, heavily tatted myself and currently living in Dubai.. not an easy place to stay sober. Found some peace with cycling and I think its helping me stay sober. Awesome channel and I look forward to hitting 1000 days just like you. One day at a time though.. STAY UP

    11. Congrats on 1000 days sober 👍 Just updated my 'try dry' app and I'm 657 days sober myself. I was using alcohol to escape from having cancer and continued when i was given the all clear. Hard as hell to kick the habit but had loads of support from the wife ❤
All the best for the next 1000 👍

    12. do you smoke as well? i dont drink but i smoke..im still struggling in quiting smoking..watching this video keeps my motivation up! you are such an inspiration!
