Matthew Briggs’ wife Kim was killed by a cyclist that had no front brakes, he only received an 18 month sentence.

He was told by police at the time that they suspected criminality but there was nothing they were able to prosecute the cyclist with.

Speaking on Talk Today with Nicola Thorp and Jeremy Kyle, Matthew calls for a change in the law and dangerous cyclists to be prosecuted the same as motorists.

“I can only conclude this Government is utterly cowed by the cycling lobby.”

    1. I remember the 2005 story of a UK nurse in the past chased by police helicopter because she was holding an apple while driving her car. She had 10 court appearances getting $60 and $100 fines but it cost the government $425 for the proceedings excluding the thousands the helicopter cost to fly. Get your fkn act together.

    2. A number of years ago my wife and I were crossing a one-way street in Worthing and of course only looked one way prior to crossing. Sadly for us there was a cyclist speeding down the road in the wrong direction who hit my wife, knocking her down onto the road, causing some minor cuts and bruises. Much to my shame., I assumed that we had failed to see the cyclist and were thus in the wrong for stepping into the road. It was only later that I realised that the cyclist was breaking the rules of the road and we were not at fault. Had I realised that at the time I would have "berated" the cyclist such that he would have required a considerable stay in hospital. No-one hurts my wife without suffering serious and possibly life-changing consequences.

    3. Wow, fancy seeing all these bots turn up to support a bicycle tax 🙄 like things aren’t ridiculous enough already. There seriously can’t be living breathing people in support of this surely.
Should we have a saliva tax too just incase somebody gets spat at?

    4. Absolutely disgusting, yet we have khan more bothered about his ULEZ, this is why we are in a mess in the 🇬🇧 through these politicians pushing anything but realistic issues.

    5. pedestrians do the same since given right of way when crossing the road they just walk out expecting you the driver to look out for them cyclist do the same since given more rights on the road the old laws worked the figures tell you that ,

    6. I knew I recognised that lady!! It’s just come to me, coronation street!!!!!!! Eileen’s boyfriends daughter if I remember rightly

    7. Milton Keynes has redways for cyclists but they’ve connected the paths outside your house into the redways, one day I walked outside my house when I cyclist just missed me at high speed. I can assure you that if he had hit me I probably wouldn’t be hear now that was how fast he was going. I contacted the council and told them that was a bad decision to connect the redways with the pathways on housing estates, and they didn’t give a dam. Nearly twenty years later nothing has changed.

    8. Of course the government is utterly cowed by cyclists, that's the reason our cycling infrastructure is the envy of the civilized world.

    9. Cycle lanes in London are hideous. Both directions in some areas are on the same side of the road. This means that when turning right you have to look ahead for cyclists then turn to look behind you for cyclists coming from behind. It is very poor planning.

    10. From what I have been told the 20 mph speed limit in Wales in pedestrian areas does not apply to cyclists.I was driving on a country road where 2 cars can pass without any problem when I came up to 2 cyclists one of them swerved into the middle of the road to stop me passing and had to follow them for a mile before I had to turn off the road

    11. A few rogue cyclists so let's change the law🤦🤦 get a damn grip.. driving is far worse on the environment and far more dangerous…we cyclists have at least 2 or 3 near misses from drivers daily.
It'll be 10mph speed limits if it's left to you people. Will you close paths if someone trips over and dies or impose a walking speed limit of 1.5mph?? It's horrible to lose your loved one but we don't need more BS laws there's enough already.

    12. I think we should all go on a council tax and road tax strike, until this has been sorted out.
I am a cyclist but no longer cycle, not because of cars and lorries on the road but because of the amount of bad cyclists. There are some very aggressive people on bikes, (especially the lycra and racing bike white collar ones), who think that they own the road and also many pretty stupid ones. They treat ALL other road users as obstacles and feel that they are above the law or that it simply does not apply to them. They appear to have virtue seeping out of every pore and orifice, under the belief that they are moral and virtuous because they choose to cycle.
The people I feel most for are those with young children. There are many pavements now which have CYCLE LANES CUTTING THROUGH THEM! People ought to feel safe from traffic on pavements.
I think we need to have a proper bike registration and that they should pay towards the upkeep of our roads like everyone else.

    13. SAME WITH THE WOMAN RECENTLY WHO WAVES A CYCLISTS TO GET OF THE FOOTPATH, CYCLIST FAILED TO CHECK THE ROAD FIRST AND RODE INTO A VEHICLE AND KILLED, WHY DID THE PEDESTRIAN GET PRISON TIME??????????????

    14. Cyclists should pay Road Tax too! We now have illegal aliens cycling all over the place! All bicycles should be subject to a test too like cars have to be tested and roadworthy!

    15. Cyclists should be forced to carry insurance, and be taxed with a road fund licence. These cyclists need to adhere to the 'rules of the road' & stop believing they are above the law.

    16. I see lots of cyclists riding busy roads in London at night with no lights*. 'Oh, I can see perfectly well with the street lights!'. *But nobody can see you!

    17. Oh, man. Lazy media tapping in to the irrational hatred and stoking the us and them "war" between cyclists and drivers. "Injustice?" Do a simple search on Google as the number of cyclists killed. Real cyclists. All the kit, lights, bright clothing who are insured, don't go through red lights or ride on the pavements. Better yet ride a bike for a week on the road. Then you'll see the danger these carsoles will put you in to save seconds. Look at the stats. I see appalling cycling too but they aren't killing or seriously injuring people daily.
