  1. Yes, we would love to see more videos with Andrew, he is the "man" – always a pleasure to watch him in action. Enjoyed the competition.

  2. Maybe you should do a bakeoff with Feather in the US or Canada, where the 25kmh limit on e-bikes does not apply — rather it's 20 mph, or 32kmh. (This is great for e-bikes on roads, not so good on trails where you can be easily surprised from behind on a recreational ride). I see from Strava that the Feather went back again a day or two ago and really spiked the ball as well say in North America — another 27 seconds off the time with a 487 watt average. Should be safe now.

  3. The biggest inspiration from Feather for me is how incredibly relaxed he looks riding out of the saddle, like a kid on a BMX for what seems like mile after mile. I'm never going to equal his wattage at this point in life but the out of saddle thing is something to work for.

  4. I am surprised how well the e-bike was, clearly speaks for the power of the rider as well. Totally not surprised by the winner, maybe a little bit by the gap.

  5. As an older amateur rider I really appreciate the extra speed I get from my Eike on steep climbs. On a regular bike climbing a 10% gradient I can manage only around 8 – 9kph, but I can double that on the Eike. At slower speeds I have a harder time maintaining a straight line, which can make it hard for traffic to pass me safely. At the higher speed I'm able to stay over on the shoulder, making it much safer for me. I'm also less fatigued when I reach the top and have the energy to do longer rides with more elevation. I'm 72 and the Eike is keeping me riding and keeping me healthy.

  6. E-bikes are great if used properly. A lot of the people who use them in NYC just use the throttle option and not at all the pedal assist. That being said this means they don’t take care of their bikes at all, their chains are worn/rusted, derailleurs snapped, etc which is painful to see 😅

  7. A motor that is not designed for climbs, especially when limited to 25 km/h, will have low torque and will struggle to go up hills. However, if the motor is allowed to operate at full power (around 40-50 km/h), it will produce more torque and will be able to go up hills at a speed of 30-35 km/h.
I have a Chinese electric bike, and I have had to modify the brakes, tires, and forks. However, even after these modifications, it is still cheaper than a European electric bike. Chinese electric bikes also have larger batteries. For example, my battery is 864 Wh, while most Bosch batteries are 500-750 Wh. Even the 750 Wh Bosch batteries are only found on high-end electric bikes that cost around 5,000 euros.

  8. I'm not a fan of ebikes necessarily, but they do have their uses. For people who are older, have physical limitations, or perhaps are just trying to get in shape, they can provide the help they need to ride with other, fitter people, or just go for a nice long ride by themselves. As long as they make sure to classify their rides on Strava as ebike rides so they're not taking KOMs/QOMs from people on bikes, have at it.

  9. I still say that the 25km/h limit on e-bikes is ridiculous and it’s the main reason I wouldn’t buy one currently. You should be able to keep up with town traffic with one or you remain an obstacle to other traffic and so will remain a target of abuse from other road users. Should be 35km/h IMO. And yes you can pedal above 25km/h but the target audience for them isn’t someone as fit as Si.

  10. The race was actually quite suspenseful… for about 30 seconds. The ebike I just I bought (which hasn't been delivered yet but I didn't pay much – $955 USD) ) has a 750-watt motor and can do 32 KPH (at least 25 KPH on hills) just on throttle-only (and nearly 50 KPH on peddle assist on flats) so I think you could have beaten him with a good ebike. Anyway, fun race, worth a thumbs up.

  11. 22% gradient… i dont know how many viewers realise how insane that is… the biggest climb in my area is like 15%
