HS2’s Community and Environment Fund has helped to restore a section of derelict canal near Lichfield.

Working with Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust (LHCRT), the new canal will enhance biodiversity through the creation of an ecology park and nature trail for the local community.

The HS2 Community and Environment Fund (CEF) provides funding over and above the committed mitigation and compensation to communities along the HS2 route and is available to organisations demonstrably disrupted by the construction of Phase One of HS2.

    1. I don't really think you can say *HS2 "Funds" unless this is money that would have gone to the paychecks of the HS2 directors and management. Which I highly doubt.

    2. This is good. Unlike the crazy money spent on unnecessary bored tunnels, the money contributed to the canal restoration is peanuts but helps make people's life and the environment that much better

    3. Misleading title, HS2 has only funded a short section not a whole canal. Seems a bit underwhelming given the amount of earth moving equipment at their disposal, hope you’ll be carrying on.

    4. A tiny bit of good. How about posting a video of the destruction to trees wildlife and people ? And I thought we funded HS2, so why are they thanking them ?

    5. Not a fan of HS2, amazing, because I work on the railway. That said, I would love to travel through here on my boat, but I still ‘cringe’ when I hear the words, ‘electric boats’… I wonder if an electric boat sinks, would I get electrocuted and further, where do we recycle the incredibly space guzzling batteries when they reach their ‘shelf life’… otherwise good luck with the project, it looks incredible so far.

    6. Didn't see a canal boat, didn't hear about canal boats, might just be a watered area with a towpath. Well, it's really only the towpath that matters to most people anyway. The towpath could be wider. A 15-foot width is used on some canals. Since it is only occasionally used for actual towing and it used for much cycling, running, and pedestrian traffic those uses should figured into its layout. Too bad no canal boats.
