*Iceland bikepacking special coming tomorrow on GMBN. Stay tuned*

Neil went on an epic bikepacking adventure across Iceland with GCN’s Si Richardson. Titanium mountain bikes are pretty bling and we’re certainly in love with how this one looks. Neil talks you through his unique softail setup for the epic off road adventure.

  1. An interesting concept with the softail. Looks quite the machine and really seemed to be built for a big adventure like this. Dramatic scenery and that is quite the bike to take on quite the epic ride. Interesting that you didn't go for the Di2 option on the bike but interested to hear how it handled some of those super steep ascents! Bonkers terrain and this bike makes it look like it is no more difficult than trying to ride to the shops! Quite the machine! Great bike and great ride!

  2. I commented on the GCN video before seeing this. I reckon a non-softail version of that frame, 29er wheels 2.25 tyres on not-quite-so wide-rims, 100mm forks and you'd have the best overall balance between Si's gravel bike and Neil's mtb.

  3. Not my kind of bike, but it surely looks cool.
I’m more of an expedition kind of rider. So mine would be steel frame, fat tyres in proportion to the rider+luggage (4” for me), no suspension at all, simple shifting (something like Paul’s Thumbies with Ultegra barend shifter, or just single speed with another hand-shifted gear), simple and reliable brakes (BB7), front and back 135mm hubs with another cog set on the front wheel, etc. etc.

  4. How could anyone thumbs down a Moots!!??
Was close to buying a Moots fully but built up my Ti ht frame that I had lying about.

Definite thumbs up from me although price tags keep it out of reach for many

  5. No mountains where I live so I bought a 700c hybrid. It's a boneshaker off road (or on country roads) so I'd love a soft tail hybrid with slight front suspension too. Around 30mm travel front & back would suffice. Keep it low maintenance.

Hopefully there's something like that on the market when I'm ready for my next bike.

  6. What's the frame size and what's the height of the rider? Hard to tell for sure but when he's standing next to the bike, he's got no clearance on the top tube. How important is this? Wondering because I got a sweet deal on a Cannondale hardtail but the frame is too large. I can stand over the top tube but I also have no clearance. I've learned that the reach between the saddle and the bars increase with larger bike frames too but that doesn't seem to be a problem.
