Badilatti climbs to third on ‘Romania’s Stelvio’ in stage 1 Sibiu Tour

Israel Start-Up Nation’s first podium of the 2020v2 season is a fact. Swiss climber Matteo Badilatti got the Israeli team a third place on a 25-kilometer final climb.

After the stage, Badilatti was quite content with his result. “I suffered a little in the beginning and didn’t feel that I had super legs, but I found my rhythm and gave it my all.”

With the sun back in the city, six riders chose early in the stage to spend their day out of the peloton. With some help with chasing from ISN, the pack easily caught the front group before the final climb.

It was all about that final climb, in Romania called the ‘Stelvio of Romania’. Badilatti, whose training ground is on and around the famous climb in Italy, joked he could use his experiences for the Romanian version of the climb.

After the finish, he had to admit the climb indeed looked like his own Stelvio, but the gradient was not as steep. “It was a nice climb. As a team, we worked well together and for the restart of the season this is a good result.”

Badilatti is also third in GC now. Tomorrow’s stage is one for the sprinters, finishing in the city of Sibiu.
