Bikepacking Bavaria: Breathtaking Mountains & Fairytale Castles // Tall Bike Tour [Ep.5]

🏰 Tucked away in the Bavarian alps is a fairytale castle which looks like it’s straight from a Disney movie!👇🏽

👀 And that’s because it actually is in a way…

⏱️ Neuschwanstein Castle began construction in 1869, under orders from the famous “mad king” of Germany, Lugwig II. Unfortunately, King Ludwig died in 1886 before the castle was completed.

📆 Then in 1950, Walt Disney visited Neuschwanstein, and was inspired to design the castle in the classic ‘Sleeping Beauty’.

💡It was such a success that few years later a replica was built at Disneyland in the USA, based on the original Bavarian castle.

📽️ Since then the castle has featured in many prominent films across the years, my favourite being the 1968 ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ which is what inspired me to visit.

✅ So you could indeed say that Neuschwanstein really is straight out of a Disney movie!

🏰 I’d always wanted to see Neuschwanstein myself as a child, and in today’s video I finally got the chance.

📍 I made a two week detour to see this incredible castle, cycling through the Bavarian Alps bordering Austria, before heading North-East towards the Danube river and Eastern Europe.
