This is the all-new Volvo EX30!

It’s an all-new small electric SUV from the Swedish manufacturers, and we think it may be one of its best releases in year! But what makes it so impressive?

Well for starters, let’s take a look at the design. Being an all-electric car, there’s no grille up front, but the design still reminds us of Volvos from the past. Along the side you’ll find a sloping roofline along with bespoke alloy wheel designs that are able to help improve efficiency. And then around the rear there are some well-designed taillights that really help give the car a bit of personality.

Step inside and the EX30 is really well designed. Nearly all functionality is housed in the central infotainment screen, which although can be annoying at times, has been done to help keep all wiring in one place to help improve costs. There are soft touch materials throughout most of the car, and the seats are super comfortable.

When it comes to performance, there are a couple of editions of the EX30 available. The entry-level car has a 49kWh battery pack and comes with a claimed range of 210 miles. There’s then a larger battery edition with two electric motors, with the range topper being the Performance model, which has a range of around 290 miles.

And it’s not just the range of the Performance model that we’re interested in. The two motors combine to produce 28hp and 543Nm of torque! This makes it one of the most powerful Volvos ever produced!

So this mini Volvo packs a serious punch, and the price starts at just £34,000, rising to only £44,000 for the top-of-the-range edition! Does this therefore make it one of the best Volvos ever? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

    1. I would not want to drive that car. I have a hand disability (left hand next to useless) but can drive any car as long as it is automatic. How would I operate that bl**dy screen while on the move? Bring back physical switches!

    2. I must say that the usability issues alone are enough to make me not like this otherwise nice looking car. A car is not a bloody home pod or iPad, many items you want to be able to use without thinking, using voice commands or go into menus.

    3. Great review but I can't stand Barcelona airport after our hire car was robed there. Not your fault but still angry with that city so can't watch much.

    4. long volvo owner here. i love this car and hate it. I love it because I think it looks amazing externally and they look after environment when bringing this one. im currently looking for second electric car – something smaller kind of commute car work-home. will not buy this one 110% and overall not going to buy another volvo again mostly thanks to this model. Using tablets during drive should be restricted like using phones. No physical buttons, no head up display, no display behind steering wheel, volvo and safety first? I smile. not anymore to me. im not looking to buy the cheapest car – I would look at fiat, renault or peugot. Im going most likely switch to merc or audi thanks to direction volvo changed. I wish them all the best but under Chinese management they changed profile of future customer and I think this model is good sales representative where company sails which is lower market segment. Wtf I need 3.4s acceleration if most of us drive in eco mode in EVs? If I want to change it during drive I need to play with tablet again :). 5-7s is max i need to overtake someone. I want to drive in the car which Im sure is very safe, listen music from high quality loudspeakers, switch mode to cruise and relax.Thats all I need and they f** up bringing this to me. Luckly for us there are other manufacturers. I'm just angry because I always was fun of brand :). Whoever read it from volvo: give Oscar to whoever design car from outside and headlights. Whoever approved interior tablet solution, no physical buttons in order to drop price down must be fired.

    5. You need all the safety features to protect you when looking across at the screen..I hope the ipad style goes out of trend in the future and we get back to physical buttons and displays that are in your natural driving eyeline.

    6. First of all I’ve had multiple Volvos going back to the 940 up to the XC90. So I’m a fan of Volvo but not by the ownership of a Chinese company. Secondly, check your facts. The XC 30 is made in China.

“When Volvo unveiled the EX90 last month, a much smaller electric crossover was teased right at the end of the livestreamed event. At that point, most journalists assumed it's going to be called "EX30," which the company's CEO has now confirmed. Speaking with Automotive News Europe, Jim Rowan acknowledged the tiny EV will use this moniker once it'll be launched at some point in 2023. He went on to mention it's going to be manufactured in China. “

    7. sending hvac, stereo or as in this case, the side mirrors through the main screen is a huge mistake manufacturers are making. Form doesn't dictate desired function.

    8. Volvo, all the years of pushing safety, so they put that tablet thing in the middle so you have to look down!!! This should be banned and fast!

    9. Strange that it's OK to operate a car's inbuilt computer for everything these days' instead of giving our full concentration on the road while driving, but it's not right to answer a mobile phone while driving. I don't answer the mobile while driving, but out of the two equally absurd dangers I think it would be safer talking on the mobile than fiddling with the inbuilt computer for everything. Did no one consult the people who make the rules about driving safety when all this new car tech was developed. Good review though and the car looks great.

    10. No instrument cluster is basic , every car need to have that, just that Tesla started it not everyone needs to follow it. You are better company Volvo , do better

    11. MAT pls use miles and km, or editor, if you want to evolve globally like you want investors to invest, that is one change I want to see as a company investor.

    12. Mostly a good design – but unfortunately it's made in China (may be designed outside of China).
Fortunately, the seats are probably made in Sweden (I think – they have a Swedish flag after all), shipped to China, and then the car is exported back to Europe.
So mostly a Chinese car, but at least the seats are Swedish.

    13. Not a fan of needing the screen to do everything. Next evolution will probably be using your phone to control your AC and operate the windows everything… oh wait but the phone screen is distracting
