Five years ago today, 31st October 2018, rebels took to the streets to challenge the UK Government’s climate inaction. We read our ‘Declaration of Rebellion’, gave impassioned speeches, and blocked our first road.
Since that day, we’ve been in continuous REBELLION.
For many around the world, the Rebellion had been going on for generations, and Extinction Rebellion really just joined their fight. We added more colour, creativity, and above all: fierce love and rage. We grabbed the imagination of many and soon grew into an international movement.
Ordinarily, an organization reaching 5 years is a cause for celebration. But not for us. Our presence today signals that we haven’t yet reached our goals.
It’s unacceptable that we’re still here, that our friends are behind bars for doing what’s right, and that the world faces more carbon emissions, deforestation, pollution, species extinction, and conflicts while our planet burns and drowns.
Extinction Rebellion UK is extending our community beyond our movement. We are reaching out to friends in other spaces, organising actions, events and community assemblies to learn from each other and build the world we want to see on a local level.
Our focus will then be, once again, on Westminster, where we’ll push for our Third Demand: the Citizens’ Assembly on Climate and Ecological Justice.
If the government don’t listen, this time, we won’t leave until our demands are met!

It is time to say this has not worked. 5 years on and the government…that is owned by powerful pollution companies who control it, (and the narrative of the main stream press) are still there and have even just handed out more licenses for coal and oil. Even net zero is a lie, we need negative emission targets and goals, remember that the collapse of the west antarctic ice sheets is happening now at 1.1C (and all the flooding, heatwave, fires, crop failures that have been caused due the current GHG levels), 1.5C limit is now unachievable even if we managed to get to net zero by 2030 the latency in the system is there and that will not happen and when we get to 1.5C stopping anything will be near impossible and we'll see 2C, which will be curtains for us, societal collapse, more wars, resource shortage and horror. Perhaps our only hope is the singularity and AI saving us by enabling the development of technologies like never seen before…and we could just of started planting trees and cutting emissions 25 years ago.
5 years and they haven't come up with a single solution. Who is funding this?

Five years ago – I informed Extinction Rebellion of Nasa/Sandia Labs 1982 Magma Energy research – explaining repeatedly in the subsequent years, that it could provide virtually limitless quantities of base load electricity and clean burning hydrogen fuel. This is what didn't happen!
