In the months leading to D-day, many high-ranking German officers, like the renowned Erwin Rommel, scoffed at the seemingly preposterous notion of an Allied landing in Europe. The thought, some believed, was mere fantasy.
This was not entirely without reason. The challenges the Allies faced were monumental. Even bolstered by the might and industry of the United States, their task seemed nothing short of Herculean. They would need to mobilize an army of unparalleled proportions, accompanied by a flotilla of amphibious vessels unheard of in scale.
Even if they succeeded in this, a far greater test awaited them. They would be up against the formidable German Atlantic Wall, an impenetrable fortress bristling with artillery and manned by well-prepared and on-guard soldiers.
And should they miraculously gain a foothold on the hallowed sands of France, the logistics of supplying such a vast army and fueling thousands of tanks across the choppy waters of the English Channel was a problem that would require a solution nothing short of divine intervention.
Yet, with this knowledge, the Allies began preparing. They started working towards creating their own miracle, Operation PLUTO. Britain would have to take on the challenge of constructing massive submarine oil lines under the English Channel in a daring and unprecedented effort.
The structure was to be their lifeline, their answer to the supply problem, supporting Operation Overlord. These pipelines were to pump millions of gallons of oil, the black blood that would fuel the Allies’ relentless advance toward the liberation of Europe.
There was, however, a catch. One challenge that made this extraordinary task even more dangerous. The Allies had to lay the pipelines in utmost secrecy, ensuring the Germans remained utterly oblivious to their plans…

i like how 10 lads behind a rock with a rifle is called impregnable atlantic wall
Could you imagine Adam Schiff, Nancy Pelosi, and the “Squad” members being tasked with this operation? They would lay the pipeline straight to Germany.
In final analysis none of it was worth the effort.
I started my career as a Logistics Support Specialist @ UTL – and had no idea. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks. Very interesting. Jim Bell (Australia)
Very good documentary! Well worth your time watching!
Absolute nonsense that Rommel thought an invasion was fantasy
USA has the industrial power to build many flotillas, fleets, swarms of anfibian, sea, or air vehicles. Manpower? All, if the people accepts.
USA losses in WW II were around 600'000 people, Germany lost more than 10 million, Russia 7 million; less than the 10 million Russians and 4 million Ukrainians starving to death during first years of 'socialism', 1917-1940.
To destroy and seize Europe was very cheap to the troops of Roosevelt, who had one more mandate than their constitution allows; Churchill, arriving to power when Chamberlain resigned, and soon died; Lenin attempted blocking Stalin, who had starting controlling the nascent bureaucrazy. All psychopaths!
Germans new we were coming and they knew where. But they didn't know we knew they comms and so we directed them way east, where they amassed their "wall".
That's why most of the landing met very little resistance. The beaches with problems was caused by excessive clouds preventing pilots from finding all the pill boxes. Sad how narrators lie about co dirions to get people to view their videos. I have to presume it's full of lies, why watch it
The somewhat negative judgement at the end doe not take into account the time that the plan was invented. At that time the Channel was a very dangerous place. Halfway 1944 things have changed. Therefore, although not contributing in numbers, it did contribute to the overall invasion strategy. Without such plans, the operation would probably not have been prepared in time
Truth is Stranger than Fiction. Eternal Vigilance USA and Allies! 🇺🇲🇺🇳🇺🇸
Amazing that we still learn new things about ww2.
I have been and keep being humbled by the fine English of the narrator. I would very much like to have this RP rolling from my tongue myself.
Still… what about the numbers – the centuries – near 19:40 and 21:40… would a native speaker really stumble over these?
So it is an AI in the end? What a marvellous, cruel deception. Brilliant and frightening at the same time.
I noticed the British Jerrycans are of the German design.
Too many images.
Niiiiice, today I learned.
I fell into your channel yesterday and got trapped. I've been binge watching your episodes, but so far at least, this one was the most interesting with the one on spies and intrigue coming in a close second. Thank you so much for teaching me about fantastic things I had no idea ever existed.
I operate in a Rheem noone else wants to go to
I truly hope this narrator hasn’t hurt himself too badly after all that congratulatory backslapping.
FFS, Lord Perceval, if Hitler had honored his pact with Stalin and focused his efforts to the west, and the USA wasn’t attacked by the Japanese, well, you know the rest, dumkopf.
LOL: the ad algorithm twinned this video with an ad featuring "how to improve flow" aimed at guys with prostate issues.
I'm not sure PLUTO would fit into any boy's bits… at least nobody i know
Anyone else got any clue about what the pic in the thumbnail depicts?
This is an interesting video that I'm glad i watched, but it has left me with that one tiny puzzle. Did i blink and miss it, or what?
I had no idea this even happened. I did wonder how the invasion fuelled things and thought they utilised enemy fuel depots. The sheer speed of development puts us to shame. No messing about, just make it work being the rule back then.
.
I REALIZE I'M NO WWII SCHOLAR, BUT EVEN SO,
I can't believe I've never even heard about these pipelines!!!

NUTS! TO THE NAYSAYERS:
BETTER TO HAVE AND NOT NEED IT,
THAN TO NEED AND NOT HAVE IT!
