The Sky Blues slipped to defeat against Rotherham United at the New York Stadium.

Lee Peltier scored just after the restart and a goal from Ollie Rathbone deep into stoppage time secured the points for Rotherham.

The hosts had the games first attempt on goal, full-back Dexter Lembiska with an effort from range, which Ben Wilson would save well, low down to his left.

At the other end, Milan van Ewijk switched play out wide to Jay Dasilva and he drilled the ball across goal for Matty Godden, who looked to divert the ball past Viktor Johansson, but the out-stretched leg of the ‘keeper denied the City striker.

Space opened up for Josh Eccles deep in the Rotherham half and he tried his luck from distance with a powerful drive, but Johansson was equal to it.

City were finding space and so was Kyle McFadzean in an unusual position, wide left deep in the United half and he picked out Ellis Simms in space and he got his shot away, only to be denied by Johansson.

Rotherham’s best chance of the half saw a combination of their front two end with Jordan Hugill picking out Fred Onyedinma in the middle, but he headed wide.

HALF-TIME: Rotherham United 0-0 Sky Blues

Following the restart, Rotherham would take the lead after Lee Peltier flicked on the ball at the near post and it found the back of the net.

The Sky Blues almost had an immediate response, when Simms’ header looked for all the world it would ripple the net, but Johansson saved from point blank range, before Ellis fired the rebound into the side netting.

Ben Sheaf was next to fire in an effort from distance, forcing the Rotherham shot-stopper into a save over his bar.

Minutes later, a ball into the box from Jay Dasilva had Matty Godden in flight, but he couldn’t direct his diving header on target, as it went agonisingly wide.

Ben Wilson kept the score at 1-0 with an excellent save from just inside of the area as Ollie Rathbone saw his shot pushed wide of goal by the fingertips of City’s ‘keeper.

Another ball into the box, this time from Dexter Lembiska, was directed towards goal by Hugill, but the post would keep out the striker.

Wilson produced another top save again to deny Rathbone, this time the midfielder’s shot from outside of the area was tipped over the bar.

Mark Robins made a triple change, introducing Callum O’Hare, Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and Bobby Thomas, with O’Hare almost creating City’s way back into the game when he picked out van Ewijk, but his volley was deflected behind for a corner.

Sakamoto thought he had found that leveller, but his header glanced wide of goal and behind for a goal kick.

With City looking for a way back into the game, the hosts doubled their lead through Ollie Rathbone.

  1. The scoreboard and clock are behind the away fans – the large screen is mainly for score updates, adverts and replays. Think there's rules about what it can show in terms of replays too.

  2. Work in progress? At the moment they are like a bunch of council workers standing around in hi vis drinking tea. The ONLY positive from that match is that O'Hare came on the pitch.

  3. Alex, you thought you had a bad day in Bristol last Saturday afternoon but it was worse for you last night losing at Rotherham oh dear

  4. It’s not straight back down. You could not head a goal with an empty net last night. We could have finished 4-0 at the end. You will bounce back. Good side with one of the best managers from the U.K. that’s in the EFL and only one better in the premier. How he saved us back in 2008-2009 with -17 points still amazes me. UTM

  5. The team needs a shakeup they dont work hard enough together. Our corners are a disgrace and so predictable. If your not will to give 100% to this great club dont play em. It showed when Callum came on thos difference and focus he made. We need to turn it around. PUSB.

  6. Why is Sanjay so quiet? Is he okay Alex? He hasn't uttered a single word in your last few video's watching the Sky Blues. Great video Alex, shame about the result and the performance. PUSB!
