➡️ *Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert* is a picturesque village located in the south of France, in the _Occitanie_ region.
It is nestled in the _Hérault_ gorges and is surrounded by a magnificent natural landscape.
The village owes its name to *Guilhem*, or Guillaume, a 9th-century nobleman who founded _Gellone Abbey_, a _UNESCO World Heritage Site._

⛪ Gellone Abbey, also known as Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert Abbey, is one of the main attractions in the village.
It is renowned for its well-preserved Romanesque architecture and its serene atmosphere.
Many pilgrims take the route to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle and stop at Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert because of the historical importance of the abbey.

Besides the abbey, the village itself is charming, with its cobbled streets, stone houses and small artisan shops.
Visitors can also enjoy hiking the Hérault Gorges, which offer breathtaking views of the surrounding nature.
