Cycle Day 26: Babelsberg to Potsdam to Berlin Olympic Stadium to Lanke (Germany). 82km (372vm). We rode into Potsdam – appears to be a grand old city. Then we set course to the Olympic Stadium. Of particular interest to me as my mother was an Olympian in the 1936 Berlin Olympics and I have a collection of memorabilia from this event.
A great deal of forest cycling again today. The Grunewald – vast forested area on the Havel river with lakes & ponds. We crossed paths with the Berlin Wall trail before we started heading north. Then again, more forest – Barnim Nature Park and Reserve – covers an area of 750 square km & was established on September 24, 1998. in between these peaceful green spaces, a certain amount of suburban cycling as we went around the northern outer edge of Berlin to start tracking north again. The noise and clutter, in comparison to the quiet green, tends to be quite draining, as we are constantly on the lookout for traffic, other cyclists & pedestrians and “where does the cycle path go now?” Staying at lovely old Seeschloss on the edge of a lake (Obersee). Managed our first swim when we arrived – we were a bit hot and tired, and the water just looked so inviting. Cool, dark & clean. Tested the ConnalKit underknicks and baselayer as a swim outfit. Worked a treat and did the laundry at the same time! Dinner on the terrace overlooking the lake. Had to try the venison as we are in the forest. Die Welt gehört dem, der sie genießt. The world belongs to those who enjoy it. The saying at the entrance to our hotel.
Day 26 of 7 weeks cycling the 2400km from south coast to north coast in Europe and a little bit extra.
