Connal Tours European Cycling Adventure. The ABC Tour – Adriatic to the Baltic Cycling Tour.
Cycle Day 16: Heidelberg to Frankfurt (Germany). 85.5km (400vm). Sunny & warm. A relatively easy ride pretty well heading due north in a straight line. Obviously, we are in a wine region – vineyards, wineries and we appear to be cycling a ‘wine route’. Being Sunday not a lot was open so a street cafe offering espresso, a banana and use of their private toilet was a welcome break. The locals were pleased to see some Auuustralians! Another bit of good timing to come across a local vintage train on it’s Sunday excursion. We spent some 6km of urban approach along tram ways through Darmstadt. The cycle lane occasionally being a bit narrow and we shied away from the tram tracks & took to the pavements. It all flowed well and being Sunday, we didn’t have to mix it with any trams. The final 5km approach to Frankfurt was through green forested outskirts up to the last 3km. Then straight to the river, over the bridge into the old city and there was our hotel – yet again next to a magnificent church and with a very nice restaurant.
Day 16 of 7 weeks cycling the 2400km from south coast to north coast in Europe and a little bit extra.
