We woke up in Menton and decided to go for it. How could we not! Nice is the traditional end of the Route of the Grand Alps and how could we sell ourselves short in Menton after having some so far on our tandem bicycle adventure across France. But this short leg on the bike over the Col d’Eze was nothing to be taken lightly. Traffic is heavy in the hills above Monaco and there is no shoulder. In fact, from south to north there is a rock wall almost all of the way on your right side. So it’s a bit treacherous. The good news is that we made it safely and all’s well that ends well right? But once in Nice we were unable (still didn’t have a working cell phone) to find a place to stay during this busy time. So we ended up riding our bike to the train station, renting an SUV, taking the bike apart and stuffing it in and driving back into the mountains where we stayed in the most delightful village of Beuil, France. Come along with us as we conclude our journey on the Route des Grandes Alpes! ~9 minutes.
