Hey man, nice footage and commentary. I didn’t quite understand why you chose this tactic to the race though. I get it that everyone wants to win, maybe especially if they currently hold the previous race winner title, but since we all know that only one person can win in this sport, why did you decide to ride against your team? I had a feeling that you really desperately wanted to win, no matter what. My reasoning is that if you can manage to get to the break, fine, it was plan A and you just stick to it. However, if you already know that it won’t work out, why not just help your team? You mentioned that your buddies sprint better than you and as the final straight was so incredibly long, trying to lead out your buddy instead of other random guys would have just been more beneficial. I believe that you knew exactly that if you won the sprint, it would’ve been the most heroic sprint ever done, which, let’s be real, unless your a sprint specialist, wouldn’t work.
I have a feeling that many people who start to do road cycling don’t realise that especially in cycling it is really unlikely that they will win a race. It’s because always riders who are in a team, have a gigantic advantage over a single rider. You just simply aren’t stronger than a few more people combined, who work for one person.
Don’t treat it as an attack, these are just my loose thoughts about racing, which in this case were clearly visible in your race. Sometimes we change the tactics, even thought they make us less favourable to win, but this is what teaches us and makes us stronger.
Really interesting how the whole video was produced, keep up the good work!
Good race and exciting to watch! I would certainly add a "km/mi to go" field to my computer to help keep track next time! It looks like some were confused by your tactics! You might do well to emphasize it was a championship – normal team tactics are not a thing (though I don't think it's disallowed.)
