    2. Defeated at Stalingrad then the Normandy invasion. Many German soldiers were realising their "1000 Year Reich" was only the propaganda of a deceived dictator driven by his own grandiose illusion.

    3. This is where Hans Holler gets into the reconstituted 21st Panzer. That will be his last unit iirc. Feuchtinger was a colorful character. He was shacked up with his mistress when D-Day started. He didn't get to his division for some time.

    4. Image shows clever engineering; reversing the single track boggies with small-diameter hubs allows the same part to be used in multiple, reversed, applications.

18:52 – ID'd by his 'beloved'. Keep listening to all of his "Parts": Post war, this guy ends up back in Austria after being a POW, and devotes impressive mental gymnastics to blaming the Versailles treaty for all of WWII! The 'stab-in-the-back' myth simply took on a new fig leaf. Pure, self-serving arrogance.

19:59 – "appropriate medication": Opiates; the danger of addiction and the resultant constipation were ignored under war-time pressure. Monty passed out Benzedrine as if it were candy and Navy fliers got uppers also.

20:09 – Had opiate treatment for intractable pain; yes, you sleep absent any dreams but you had better be unwilling to fall into addiction; it is your life to control.

21:42 – This diarist is, simply, dishonest. There is no way of knowing the distance of "half of your endurance". These are claims made later for reasons other than honesty.

      26:12 – Written for publication in a post-war magazine.

27:40 – The war is over; the Nazis had lost. The Reich had shot its wad. It was defeated and further deaths were the result of the Reich's inability to deal with reality.

29:02 – "With propaganda", and you bought into it! For shame!

31:26 – Thus the difficulty with replacement parts, added to the obsolescence of much of the equipment.

45:43 – Longer than that; early '43, the Nazis surrendered both Stalingrad and Tunisia. They never again mounted a successful strategic offensive.
