Defeated at Stalingrad then the Normandy invasion. Many German soldiers were realising their "1000 Year Reich" was only the propaganda of a deceived dictator driven by his own grandiose illusion.
This is where Hans Holler gets into the reconstituted 21st Panzer. That will be his last unit iirc. Feuchtinger was a colorful character. He was shacked up with his mistress when D-Day started. He didn't get to his division for some time.
What did it matter? Ultimately, the Allies won.
