Brompton bicycles are synonymous with the city: folding bikes that can be taken on the train and which help to get you around on flat terrain. So what happens when you take a Brompton out of its comfort zone? Can a folding bike climb? We brought along multiple British Hill Climb champion Andrew Feather for a race. It’s pro on a Brompton versus Ollie on a superbike!

    1. I would like to know spec of brompton
It is surprising, but brompton A line in stock (44T crank) is absolutely terrible for climbing, everything was beating me.
Same brompton with 54T crank is quite good for climbing
I am surprised to see quite a speed on it. Uphill I am getting up to 17mph, while level cycling it is around 23mph top speed

    2. I wonder what Andrew's time would have been had the Brompton been fitted with drop handlebars plus any other modifications needed so as to give him a road bike position?

    3. Initial response: Got this bike for my friend. https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ Delivery was fast. And the friend was surprised I would order it when she had never suggested she wanted anything but the pedal bike she had. She has now ridden the bike two times and gives it a 10 and says it is very fun. We have some hills in our town that are very challenging to climb on a typical bike. But tonight she went up with the pedal assist and loved it. I was way behind on my standard bike, huffing and puffing. Now she is no longer lagging behind me. This thing is powerful enough that a person could go around town without any pedaling. She likes to get some exercise so on flat ground she hits the red button to turn off pedal assist and only uses the twist throttle when she's in a tough spot. The bike looks good. It is really a very nice bike for the friend. Now for me, when I get an electric bike, I'm twice her size and will be looking for a bigger watt motor and battery. But this one is just wonderful for my friend. I am happy with this purchase.

    4. Love my Brommie. But if you've ever ridden a sustained uphill, let alone true climb, you know the limitations of those 16" wheels well. It has definite applications, but hill climbing is a tough one.

    5. watching this video while wondering and quite regretting my decision of buying a folding bike where i shouldve bought a gravel because the road to where i live need quite much of a climbing. God i should have do more research (:

    6. Any tips for riding folding bikes around inclined areas? I need to commute 7 miles on one and on my first go only managed 4miles before my legs gave up as I'm brand new to cycling as an adult. So just any recommended leg strengthening and best ways to keep endurance up whilst riding, and how to deal with the hilly areas!
