Day 56. 16 October 2022. The Ciro Trail in its glory, unlit tunnels, no surpriise in hindsight, that are long enough, some of them, that you can’t see the other end. Initially, when I was trying to shoot video footage with my GoPro, the rough surface in those tunnels whilst holding the camera as still as possible slowed my speed so much that my dynamo-energized headlight dimmed so much that I couldn’t safely negotiate what I was about to hit / ride on, and that slowed me down even more. Once I concluded my filming efforts, I was able to hold a much faster pace, even as I bounced off what seemed like ledge at times on the train tunnel floors. Anyone on a heavy touring bike will likely have to push through these tunnels. A headlamp would be critical and enough to ride for most folks I suspect; worst case, a person could keep track of their position in the complete darkness by touching a wall the whole way through.
