Road cycling Transfagarasan will put a big smile on your face. The road surface is good on the North Side, the scenery is impressive and the climb is not that difficult (5.8% average slope). Transfagarasan road is open each year usually between June to November.

Some quick info about cycling Transfagarasan:
– North side climbing Strava Segment: 23km long, 1.382m of altitude gain, 5.8% average slope
– Starting altitude: 650m, top of the climb at 2030m
– Tour de France winner, Egan Bernal, has climbed it in 58min 09 sec (2017)
– “Transfagarasan” means “Trans” + “Fagaras” mountains (that are part of the Romanian Carpathians)
– There is also a South side that you can reach by passing a 1km tunnel, near Balea Lake at 2030m of altitude

Only been to the top (twice) in the cable car, and the weather has always been cold and damp even in summer. I'm planning to ride it this year. What gearing did you ride this climb and paltinis?
