"Doe maar – Nederwiet" live with English translation.
If it will let you. But you should at least watch it. lol
The bags on the back of the bike come in different sizes. These sizes are indicated by the word ĺiter, with a number in front of it. The higher the number, the bigger the bags.
A video about the difference between shopping in The Netherlands vs shopping in Australia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Tej4eRez-8&t=30s
It is not our life, just a daily part of it. And the best way for a crate of beer is still holding it with one hand, once it is properly balanced it is relatively easy.
4:15 Hehe cycling with one hand is a pretty common skill, I couldn't live without it 😅A bit trickier (but also quite common) skills:
– Cycling without using your hands at all. I guess this is especially learnt by boys because of their natural drive to learn such useless tricks (and you don't want to be the "loser" who can't do this). I recall we sometimes challenged each other to cycle the whole way back home from school without hands 😆
– Cycle while steering with one hand, and holding another bike in the other hand. Which can be quite handy when you need to pick up a bike with a flat tire for example 🙂
WTF is that? I live in Germany and I have been doing this all my life long and I even have a car. I always go by bike(90%). Coz it makes no damn sense to go shopping 2km on a diesel(even if it was normal gas neither, not even electric). And I have bags on my bike too. I mean.. what is so unusual about that, for someone to do a "react" video? And it is healthier to move your legs once in a while.
Really common to have some groceries on the back of your bike, and/or on the front (and maybe in one hand as well…)
Or a child seat on the front AND one the back, and holding a bag of groceries in one hand as well….
Why not, we're used to it. To balance our way, on a bike, from about the age of 3….
Remember, in the rain as well as in sunny weather the Dutch do bike with all of their children and groceries….. And yes, it's safe. Because all other (local) traffic is used to it. Know it from their own experience. To be on a bike as well. So cars i.e. are driving more with consideration.
But be carefull in tourist cities such as Amsterdam…. Or major cities troughout the country. Not everyone (local or tourist) may be polite or even be used to it, or even go by the traffic rules. Meaning: bikes rulezzz!! Before cars, on a crossing. Specially with some high school and uni students.
So as a foreign cyclist or pedestrian, and sometimes even cars: look out.
But in general: if you use your common sense and look out, it 's safe.
I seldom use a bike for shopping. Shops are so close by that I can do most of shopping on foot.
You can, with some practice and enough speed, ride a bicycle without hands on the handle bar.
Most Dutch people can actually ride the bike with no hands on the steering (once up to speed)
The thing with beer crates is that it might be a bit unstable, but people around you that so are more careful when they see you. Same goes with little kids.
