In Sweden you’re able to access anyone’s land, camp pretty much wherever you desire and pick berries, mushrooms and flowers on someone else’s property. How is this even possible? Watch the video to find out.

    1. Great opening to good music, 🙈 no trespass, 🙉a gun shot, 🙊 your look of surprise wonderment, terrific!!! Thanks for the ride along.🇺🇸💪👍✌

    2. Dear, Mike, please do not forget that our Swedish neighbor country, Finland, which was part of the Swedish kingdom, has almost 700 years of common history! And also the fact that Finland’s beautiful nature is open to everyone to explore and enjoy!
Finnish everyman's rights – the right to roam & enjoy nature equal to the "Allemansrätten" in Sweden!
The Finns call this freedom “Jokaisenoikeudet,” or “Everyman’s Rights.”
But as always, rights come with responsibility. Here are the dos and don’ts of free roaming in Finland.

In Finland, nature is both wild and free.
The law allows anyone living in or visiting Finland the freedom to roam the countryside, forage, fish with a line and rod, and enjoy the recreational use of natural areas – respectfully, of course. This is known as “The Everyman’s Rights,” or Jokaisenoikeudet.

Remember, though, that with this right comes responsibility. Finland’s arctic nature, particularly that of Lapland, is fragile. Please tread carefully, leave no trace, avoid private property, and stay out of areas designed to protect vulnerable environments or wildlife. A few complex rules also apply, regardless of where you are within Finland. Hunting and fishing, aside from angling, are strictly prohibited without a permit. Otherwise, enjoy! Finland’s beautiful nature is accessible to all.

    3. I fully committed to the 'right to roam' in Scotland for most of my life. Now I live in Tasmania, where rather than a civil matter (as England, where I also lived for a decade) trespassing is a criminal offence. I do it anyway, bikepacking across sheep pastures mainly and have only once been caught out, and it wasn't pretty. Even my Glasgow accent, which this 60 year old still appears to charm many with, did me no favours with that irate fella.
I have a theory that countries in which land was violently wrested from the previous inhabitants adheres to an absolutist vision of 'private domain' rather than a shared one as you (and I, once) enjoy.

    4. Just to remind people who are not from the nordic countries, this freedom to use roads and freedom to travel in nature doesn't include private yards where is a house. Sometimes tourists seems to believe, that they can go under someones window because there is a freedom to travel in nature. There has been several times tourist on our yard just 3 m from our window thinking that they have a right to be there, because there is no trespassing in nordic countries. It doesn't give you right to park your car to someone else's parking lot either.

    5. God i love my country, there is so much nonsense floating around the internet about our beautiful land but the freedom and safety i have felt my entire life is not worth to trade for anything!

    7. Thanks for sharing. I’m an American bikepacker and I avoid private property at all cost. You need to just assume everyone is armed and ready to “defend” their property. It sucks. That said, I’ve generally found Americans to be pretty kind to bike travelers. They offer you food and drink and even a ride if you ask. And there’s so much public land in the West that it’s generally easy to find a place to camp. Id love to visit Sweden just to experience the right to roam. It’s so different from the American attitude.

    8. Its really important to point out these "freedoms" only really work in areas with big relatively wild landscape and small populations and where most people enjoying the freedons exhibit self-limiting behaviour and therefore act responsibly. This very easily breaks down without those conditions as we often see in the UK, where people increasingly think they have these sorts of freedoms but there are too many people on a small island with many having no idea of how to behave.

    9. Just thought of an awesome idea, create a symbol in the United States where you could have it on your driveway stating you’re OK with people camping in your woods responsibly❤

    10. I live in Newfoundland and there's so much wilderness that you could travel for weeks and never cross private land. If you did happen onto someone's property, there's a good chance that the owner would invite you in for a cup of tea.

    11. Thanks for the insights it’s very interesting. I watched you on your bike trip with Ryan. Continue your nice work!

I’m also a bike lover in Quebec, Canada so weather and scenery seems to look pretty much like Sweden.

      Keep on biking ❤
