The things you probably care about since there’s not much out there on this bike yet (it’s not even on Trek’s website, and the only videos are ‘I found this thing leaked on a Mexican bike website’ types with no actual images or such (though the specific video I’m thinking of actually did have all the specs correct, so good on them)
* They updated the Roscoe 6 to the new frame- this is big because it was the odd man out and so it had wacky geometry
* They put giant ass tires on it because why not- also XR4s which are a solid tread pattern (they have literally already saved me from black walnuts and construction site ruts multiple times in the hour I’ve owned the bike lol)
* They ditched Deore in favor of the Shimano Cues 1×9 (typo in picture caption)- I was skeptical of the 9 speed, but after riding it its got loads of range, and I feel like the climbing gears will be more than sufficient because I cant 1 or 2 on flat ground basically at all without spinning
* It now shares a frame with the rest of the Roscoes, which was the biggest thing wrong with the Roscoe 6, per the internet (I’m probably not even good enough to know the difference)
* 140mm suntour fork- pretty awesome feeling- I’m not good enough to tell the difference between rockshox, suntour, etc. I know you can drop it off 4 inch curbs and not feel anything!
* This is very similar to the ‘satin power surge’ color that the checkpoint used to come in- though maybe a little more green? It’s a fun color. I’m going for a ‘dragon’ color scheme, hence red pedals (the stock ones are shit) and bottle cage.
* Grips are fine and I think the same as the other roscoe stock grips, but eagle eyed people will note that I swapped those for the marlin grips because I find them more comfortable.

Some backstory: I’m mid 30s and have spent much more time on road than off, but have always been intrigued by MTB, and had a blast the couple times I’ve tried it on way less capable bikes, but am still very much a noob and scream like a girl rolling down moderate inclines with roots and rocks, then feel awesome at the bottom about not dying. Went to the Trek store with my girlfriend and tried out the Gen 3 Marlin 6 and the salesperson rolled over a few Roscoes and suggested we try them too. I was intersted in the roscoe but dollar for dollar knew the last gen 6 was not a great deal for the price, and the jump from 6 to 7 at least locally was like 700 bucks, which exceeded my budget. I intially thought they were Roscoe 7s since I recognized the new geometry from the curve at the bottom of the frame, but couldnt find the bike online at all to look at the specs, so called the shop earlier this week and he confirmed that no, they were the new updated 6, and they just dont exist on the consumer Trek page yet, even if you search by SKU. After riding both initially, I honestly enjoyed the Marlin better- but after trying again today, I realized that I could get the sort of ‘snappier’ feeling I liked about the Marlin by just downsizing to a M/L and raising the handlebars and dropper post (I’m 6′ and usually a L/58 in Trek bikes) I’m having a blast on the bike so far!
