u/Mattymatt2121 just put up a post about his carbon fork “exploding” on a FX3 and now I’m a bit nervous. About a month ago I was biking to work on my 2009 7.3 FX and my fork separated on the left side under heavy braking. Thankfully only one side broke and I was able to come to a stop rubber side down. After the 1000s of miles I put on it I was shocked to be given a new FX3 aluminum with the carbon fork under warranty and was (am) so happy with it and the modern component upgrades. I’ve never even had disc brakes yet! However in light of my recent experience and that terrifying post I’m now a bit concerned. How common is fork failure on these bikes? What are warning signs to look out for/care tips to prevent such a failure? I do regular maintenance and cleaning on my bike and I very much do not want to have the same experience u/mattymatt2121 had.
Here are some pics of my failed FX 7.3 fork for reference.
