Monaco is the world’s second-smallest country, spanning only 2.2 square kilometers. Yet it’s the capital of the wide world of car racing.

For more than 70 years, the country has hosted the Monaco Grand Prix. It’s one of the world’s most unusual racecourses, running through the city streets of Monte Carlo. The course goes through a tunnel, up a cliff, and passes just feet from the harbor; it’s earned the nickname “the race of a thousand corners.”

Because of its design, the Monaco Grand Prix has produced some of the most memorable moments in car racing history. But that’s not the only reason the race is so prestigious.

Monaco is a tax haven, and for decades has been a favorite place for the rich and famous to stash their wealth. The Grand Prix weekend is the country’s biggest weekend of the year, and the combination of a unique course and the world’s most famous people make the Grand Prix the world’s most prestigious car race.

    1. Not entirely true it's a tax haven. It's an INDIVIDUALs tax haven. Very, very few companies in Monaco are tax exempt and it doesn't have competitive investment taxes for non-monagasque residents/citizens. It doesn't tax income, but does indeed have many high taxes. Gasoline in Monaco is $6/Gallon before tax and comes out to nearly $6.30 a gallon after tax.

    2. The only moment when Vox Atlas, when its mostly focused on concerning topics about geopolitics, economical or social crisis and whatnot, it just focuses on a different thing. Or so i thought, idk.

    3. This is more interesting than an actual car race. I get it, things that go fast is fun, but it's literally the same cars going round in circles. You're lucky if someone crashes and does a spiral.

    4. this came back up in my feed a year later and i came back here to say the same thing.
The worlds most famous race has always been and will always be the Indy 500.

    5. Dude the F1 car in the intro goes backwards? Like dont you even show the video at least someone seen an F1 car before.

Yeah another shallow video from Vox, all the information you guys give is shallow and sometimes wrong.

    6. the monaco gran prix is a status symbol.. it provides one of the worst racing products next to those awful Tilke tracks. if they would have tried to squeeze the monaco track into todays f1 calender, people would hate it. because its terrible to race.

    7. Idk about the most famous. I think it's because it is the most difficult. I honestly think they should change the track. As of today, it is still a very hard and dangerous grand prix. If they widen the track width. It would only help the sport 🤷🏾‍♂️

    8. monaco was great back in the day, but not worth watching now days, cars are too big for the track. the track has not changed over the years to allow for the fact formula one cars are now over 1.5X as wide and almost 2X as long. its just a boring race now. like in the 2022 GP there were 12 overtakes in the entire race which is on the high side. because in both 2012 and 2021 there were 0 overtakes in the entire race. meaning monaco is 2/5 races since 1950 which saw 0 overtakes.

    9. often unacknowledged is Monaco is awash with prostitutes
      at all levels of society.
Their competition is more intense than F1 drivers.
You can not believe what is on offer at those bargain prices.

ALL VIDEO clips show them, however briefly.
