    1. Great summary. I agree that Herceg Novi is the best place to stay in Montenegro. However, you miss probably the four most important positives with Herceg Novi:

      1) it’s close to the international airport in Dubrovnik. This airport has more flights to the rest of Europe than Podgorica and Tivat. Sure, there can be long lines at the border in the summer but plan ahead and you will be all right.

      2) while it’s a tourist town it has a big enough year round population that there will be amenities year round. There will be restaurants and shops open year round.

      3) the microclimate ensures it’s the sunniest city in Montenegro and that there are usually cool winds also int eh summer (when Podgorica is scorching). You can swim in the ocean until late October if you want to.

      4) the seaside promenade (Pet Danica). Most coastal towns in Montenegro it can be quite hard to get down to the beach and there usually isn’t any car-free road along the water. In Herceg Novi there is – the Five Danicas Promenade. You can basically walk or bike from Igalo in the west to Meljine in the east without meeting cars. (It used to be where the railway tracks went before they were torn up in the 1970s). Compared to for example Kotor where the town isn’t really facing the sea and is kind of blocked off from it by the port.

    2. You really should head up to Belgrade for the spring. A very urban vibe yet cozy. Sort of Berlin in the 90s. Lots of nightclubs, cafes and restaurants. Plus, it’s not expensive for being in Europe.

    3. Living there for one month, it would be a very enjoyable you can live a life as a tourist. But after spending nine months in Montenegro, I got to see the culture for what it really is behind this beautiful place. The people are rude, they are inconsiderate, and extremely anti-western, especially anti-American. And they don’t hide it. Yes it’s very inexpensive. You can live a quality life unless than €2000 but you will be treated like a second-class citizen by the locals. But if you’re coming just for a week or two, it is absolutely beautiful. It’s a horrible place to relocate for an Expat from the US or Canada. I can’t count the times I’ve had people bring up the war and Kosovo from the 90s. Berating me for being an American.
