I specifically asked Brilliant if they would to sponsor my videos because I genuinely wish this existed when I was studying engineering!
…and the electric trains make the platforms cleaner and quieter. And you have shown your respect by learning how to pronounce Dutch correctly.
As someone who has lived in Driebergen all my life, it was funny to me to hear an outsider complain about the bad usage of traffic lights under the station. Because that was and still is my biggest issue, let me just use my speed from downhill to get uphill agian without having to stop for a red light!
Je zoveel sbij Station Woerden moete komen kijken….. je bent van harte welkom.
In the uk this would cost 1billion and be delayed by 10years then scrapped
This style of train station has become quite common the last couple of years and it's certainly nice, but I still miss the old types of staions a bit. They were not as convenient and efficient perhaps, but I loved them. Luckily we still have some of those old/pretty stations such as Haarlem and Den Haag Holland Spoor
The transformation of Delft Centraal is also worthy of a video. Not sure if you know but Delft used to have overhead train lines called the ‘luchtspoor’ right along the center of the city, however the transformation of the Centraal area since the train lines have been moved underground is phenomenal.
Delft is a lovely historic town with one of the best preserved historic centers, many buildings being protected as historic heritage. In contrast, it has the biggest technological University in the country in the TU Delft and surrounding Campus with many other Universities also residing there. This means plenty of student traffic using public transport, also resulting in the previously named Delft Zuid station being renamed to Delft Campus which was recently renovated into the first energy-neutral station in the Netherlands.
The transformation of Delft Centraal and Zuid/Campus have made the area so much more accommodating to travellers, which is why I think it deserves it’s own video. (If you’re ever in the area of course!)
If you need help finding old footage, youtube has plenty of footage on offer. I can help you find it as well!
If you’d want me to show you around, as I live in the area, let me know. I live at a 15 minute train ride from there, so I’d he able to help you visualise where the old train line was.
"There are J" pauses video to count on fingers Oh wow, J is a lot of platforms!
Welcome to Europe!
@notjustbikes, if you are interested they are gonna build a new station at Gilze Rijen. This station has the same problems that this station had.
You should see the Delft station where they solved the whole city's bicycle problem by making the station super accessible by all transport
Have a look at Ede-Wageningen soon! Its 1 stop further towards the train to Nijmegen (from 3BZ) and the rebuild is almost completed.
cross transfer platforms are the best invention but there are not many true cross transfer platforms in operation . Sydney has one at Chstswood between the old manualy driven trains heading on the northern line and the newer driverless train metroline also heading north in a different direction . You get off one train and get straight onto the other waiting train unless you are traveling in the opposite direction. I believe there is also a cross transfer platform in Vancouver at Broadway Commercial which originally when the new skytrain line opened did not exist. The train doors open on both sides at this station allowing passengers to travel in either direction. ( I have not had to use this cross platform transfer yet) by having the train sandwiched between 2 platforms
You should have a website with a map & markers for all the stations & locations you have reviewed, so people can choose the videos from there and you feel engaged to review all the stations in the world ^_^
It's actually insane to an educated mind to hear Americans refer to themselves as a first world.
Wow. I wish we were that efficient with building stuff in germany! Good job, Netherlands.
Can't agree more for the cross platform transfer.
I needed 3 subway transfer to get to my office in Beijing. Instead of walking miles in underground tunnels, luckily all my transfer were cross-platform transfers. So all I need is a 30 second waiting time for the next train in rush hour.
The amount joy and smug I am getting from this, makes me feel even better than no transfer at all, even if it takes a bit more time.
I live in Zeist and this video makes me proud of living there. Zeist is not even a city btw but a town.
Living near netherlands: they have the best traffic system i know. many bicycles for shorter distances, so cars don t get stuck in traiffic.
no speeding.
great bicycle ways.
less car traffic so its quit and secure for the children.
a higher quality of life them in my german cars-only-city.
Crying here in the UK as our government cancels high speed rail projects, plans for ULEZ zones, Low traffic neighbourhoods and 20mph urban speed restrictions. All because they held on to a seat in a by-election and are scared of the motorist lobby
Thanks again for making such a wonderful video. Thank you for also pointing out what bugs you. We still have room to improve.
I think 'Station Amersfoort Schothorst' is similar that structure. I have been living in the Netherlands for almost 4 years. There are many station is similar to this. They are amazing
Mind blowing that one of my favourite new channels does a video on my hometown train station. As a local I can tell you that the redesign is loved by everyone that I know that lives in Zeist. FYI I believe that the princenhof building was there before the redesign and therefore the entrance was already there. There was a bike lane there before though to the old bicycle parking area on the Zeist side if I remember correctly.
I live in Driebergen, I love the station. A massive upgrade from before the project
