Bikes made from carbon fibre have been available since the mid 1980s but the carbon manufacturing process is evolving. Through the use of innovative machinery and filament winding without resin, 3T are able to craft tubes and frames with increasingly more complex shapes. Ollie was lucky enough to get a tour of the 3T factory in Lombardy to see how.

    1. Nice advertorial. Don't even want to think how much 3T (which used to be TTT as in Tecno Tubo Torino and mostly made aluminum handlebars) had to cough up for it but in the end 3T glue pieces they make from carbon fiber together just like pretty much everyone else, no? If robots are doing all the work, who cares where they do it? If these things take so little time to crank out, will the price reflect it? Nah, but the profit-margin will!!!

    2. I bought 3 sets of Deda carbon tubes to build some frames and they came from Italy paid for in Italy to find Chinese quality control stickers inside !!!

    4. Saw this video and went out and bought a 3T. Flipped it over one day and noticed a sticker on the underside of the frame that read made in Taiwan. Turns out not all 3T bikes are made in Italy. It’s an okay bike but probably would have purchased something else had I known.

    5. it does NOT take 24-48 of labor hours to layup a frame lol. doesn't even take that many manhours for the whole bike from tows to finished product.

I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

    7. no way they are hitting a micron on that mold. if just the expansion of the mold alone due to thermals 10^-6*560*10 would be 5 microns let alone the cnc required to hit a micron would be astronomically expensive

    8. After working for a bike manufacturer, I’m always intrigued by all the different ways each company creates their products. Carbon fibers and engineering combined is truly fascinating. Thanks for each episode that showcases this tech!!🤙
