In most European countries its acceptable to express oneself freely in the society. But, in some countries where conservative societies exist its very dangerous to express oneself openly. Where religious beliefs and political views are taken seriously. Trust is a very expensive thing in my place because most people put fake persona. So, people maintain this fake persona all their life. About your Korean experience that persona may not want to say it openly but want to quickly move on 😄. So that persona managed until you left. then you are confused 🤔 . glad you are confused and not hurt emotionally. 🙂 I also believe most people value based on how much useful to them the other person. Money plays huge role in this. They evaluate everything may not say out loud.
